I like think it was a good trade i think if he can stay healthy he will score 30 goals and 70 points go habs go
I think the habs will make the playoffs if they can get the goaltending go habs go
Alot is depending on how his shoulder heals. His elite release will not be the same if his shoulder is not 100%. If his shoulder is 100% and his elite shot/release is the same as his highlight reals, this is a home run. It will probably take him 20 games to get into game shape and get his timing back
Very good trade for Laine. A second for free. Dumping Harris, awesome. If Laine works out he's young enough to stick with the team. If he flops it's an eatable contract. Hughes did a find job.
If the top 6 stays healthy this season the Habs offence will be top 10 in the league imo, Laine has changed the Habs offensive potential, great video Coach.
If he stays healthy, he will score 30-40 goals, i would put Slaf with Dach and Laine, the LSD line, and Roy would be on the first line with Caufield and Suzuki, Newhook would go on the third line.
Laine has to stay healthy and a new team, new beginnings is perfect for him. I believe Laine 40 to 60 goals this year. Go HABS Go
Im excited to have him on the team. We won this trade alone by getting a second round draft pick for a 3rd pick. We picked on Laine simply because our finances was in order thanks to management. Life for the Habs is so bright we gotta wear shades.
The upside of having Laine on the team is insane only if he stays healthy and away from his bad habits. The downside is if he brings his toxic habits and bad attitude into the dressing room. This could be a disaster of a trade and I hope I'm wrong.
Harris was a solid defenceman and a quality personā¦I believe his potential is higher than expected and I will miss him.Laine is a gambleā¦.right now, he looks good and his attitude seems much betterā¦so he can be a real contributor to the teamā¦letās seeā¦I want to see him play at least to Christmas to make a final determination.
Good video
Laine is probably top 10 players of ALL time. Habs will smoke now.
That's not abig price to pay for the gamble of seeing Laine find is magic touch once again.
Great analysis, happy to see how the habs will perform with all those great adjustments in the offseason. But I disagree here a little bit: To finish outside of the bottom 5 next season is definitely not a dissapointment… In my opinion its not just about the draft picks. Its about team morale and motivation for the players as well. And for a guy like Laine is motivation a key ingredient for playing well…
we are going to sign Laine he is gonna be the one who wins more than Suzuki . the one and only . with Laine we have a dynasty . Caufield will be the one who benefiate it the most. less pressure for him to score . With Laine relieving the need to score from Caufield cole will thrive for real Cole will bank 32-35 this year with Laine. Laine will bank 40-45 this year vice versa. Without Laine we are not even close to a dynasty even with demidov, hage and cie. With Laine, demidov, Hage in the next five years I think we can win at least two cups. We need to sign Laine long term I'm giving him eight years with my eyes close.
Itās my 1st visit to your channel. Excellent analysis. He will increase the skill level of the team overall and the 2nd line will now be more of a threat to put up points. The Canadians will have a challenge to deal with his injury issues and finding ways to keep him motivated.
Caufield-Suzuki-Newhook
Laine-Dach-Slafkovsky
Roy-Dvorak/BarrƩ-Boulet-Armia
Pezetta-Evans-Anderson
I watched Patrik the last 4 years. This trade will wind up being much ado about nothing. Laine will be there two years and bolt for Florida, the place he wanted to be traded to and the place where his wife to be wants to live. Patrik missed 117 games the last 3 years. In the end, Harris will do nothing in Columbus, Montreal will pay Laine $17.4 million dollars for two non playoff seasons (they may even wind up trading him at the 2026 deadline). Montreal can salvage the trade if they cash in on that 2nd round pick. Don't forget Patrik wanted out of both Winnipeg and Columbus because he had locker room issues.
If Laine can recapture his former playing level, this will be a really good trade for the Canadiens! I was skeptical about Laine and the issues he has had in the past but hopefully they are just that…in the past!š
my opinion š¦
Coach I believe they found there missing piece if he is halve the player we will be better but we lost a good player
I honestly see this as a move that is similar to when the habs picked up Sean Monahan. Honestly likely even better, if Laine rebounds he had the skill and potential to be a top 10 NHL scorer. He never reached his potential, and he is very Capable of netting 40 goals.
The habs picked up a rehabilitation project that has potential for a good fit in long term signing or trade that can have a big return if he scores goals.
I liked Jordan Harris he is a solid bottom 5-6 defenceman but Montreal just had no room. The only thing I honestly would do now is trade Dvorak. I just feel Beck needs to play and I would pair him with Roy and Anderson and get him pk experience now. Beck's role is to win Faceoffs and kill penalties but he can rack up assists with someone like Roy. I just don't think Dvorak is part of the future.
we're not having a bad year . we will get to the playoffs starting this year I put money on it
Me I was hyped to draft Ivan Ryabkin .
and people saying that Motembault cannot do the job. yes he can if Montembault was in edmonton last year, they would've won the cup. Montembault is as good as Crawford was for the hawks.
Well done video coach.
Coach do you think lania could play on first line I mean Slav played with Dack and they had good chemistry
High gamble for something that looks like pure fantasy. Everyone seems convinced 40+ from Laine is a sure thing with nothing to suggest that. He has hit it only once 8 seasons ago and is now going into his 9th season. I am not claiming the talent isn't there but I have no evidence to suggest that the will is. Defensively he has always been a big liability and this fact will hurt the Canadians. That is assuming he can stay healthy enough and long enough for either the good or the bad to show up whichever comes more often. He could end up a very expensive paper weight in the press box if he can't stay healthy and it now prevents Montreal from doing anything else financially. Risk is way too high for my taste. They would have been better off sending Harris to Columbus for the pick and keep that financial flexibility to be able to do something more reliable. I would be happy to be proven wrong but to be honest I don't expect anything close to whatever everyone else seems to. I don't expect him to keep pace with his overall career rate of 0.8 pts/game. Maybe a half a point per game, maybe a little more. Being from Manitoba I can justify from many years of watching lazy Laine is an earned nickname/
I donāt understand when you talk, can we have a translation?
Great overview Coach
L move
Super Coach… Sorry i am not more regular. Hope you are well my friend. I will be regular more during the season.
As for Laine— Do we remember Laine when he was drafted. He was saying he was a better pick then Mathews. I do not think that Laine has forgot that.
What better place to stick it to the Leafs then in Montreal!!!!
I watched his interview and i am way more comfortable.
Go Habs!!!!
Go Laine!!!
So Supercoach & Team— Marko, Sir Enortap!!!
One thing that this trade can also do is that this can really help Caufield some more open ice by getting Laine. It will force other teams to spread their defensive plans into 2 offensive lines instead of just the first line. The more I think about this trade the more I like it…. Would anyone be insulted if we would only get a 2nd rounder for Harris? I don't think so… so add the potential of Laine getting back to form is just a bonus, and if it fails… get rid of him next year. But if it works..let's say Monahan 2.0…WHAT A WIN!!!!
Time for Kent to trade either Strubble or Barron to the OIlers, they just passed on both offer sheets.
Tabarnak l'accent pi la prononciation ššš
Patrick Laine has said that he wants to bring a cup to MTL, we will not be getting a cup in the next 2 years, What kind of extension do you maybe expect if Laine has back to back 30 goal seasons, OR what would his contract look like if he only score two 20 goal season?
3rd and 4th lines are still absolute garbage, Kent needs to get on this
Laine has clearly said that he wants to play at his best for the Habs and if his hearth is all into it, his contribution to the game should be indeed a game changing move. Go, Habs, Go !!!
Thanks for this video coach. But I think there are two players added to this years' team that could make a real difference in the standings. Laine and Dach. As long as they can stay healthy . so I think with those two additions the Habs will be closer to just getting into the playoffs. Also how many one goal games did MTL lose last year? With more fire power hopefully we will see W's instead of L's..
I wish Harris the very best. He's a classy young man, and I hope he prospers in Columbus.
This trade is reminiscent of when Frank Mahovlich joined the Habs in 1971 and made a significant impact on the team.
Time and only time will tell if itās a good or great trade. Laine will fit in nicely.
The Silver Tongue'd Devil Kent Hughes did it again! A top flight scorer resetting here for 2 years, perfectomundo! IMO management is luring talent because players know it's being done right, draft, develop and coach to win. Great post Coach, love this show, the best around!
The thing is: Laine is definitely a 40 goal scorer when healthy and makes the most money on the team. You don't think that he'll get a shot on the top line?
Congrats Habs – this looks like it could be a good fit. MSL is probably one of the better coaches to rebuild Laine's confidence and game
For Patrik to pull off close to 30 goals and 50+ points will contribute greatly to this team.
It's those lower line mismatches that can win or lose games.
I'm not a Hab & even I think this is a great move for both the player and the team.
Let's see if Patrik can speak French and likes poutine before there are predictions for his future!
I concur, coach, it was a total robbery!
It's only 2 years and the Habs got the cap space, therefore there is no risk.
The Habs just made a significant improvement.
A few weeks ago (if not a few days ago), I wasn't very high on the Habs acquiring Patrick Laine.
I just didn't see him in the portrait or in the "picture of the plan" if you will.
My line of thinking was that all the negative stuff that is said about him don't matter as long as the Habs don't pay too much to get him.
Because the rumors were talking about CBJ retaining some salary, I felt it was a bad idea.
In my mind, if CBJ retained salary, it meant the Habs would give more in return.
Now, I would have never thought Kent Hughes could get him at such a cheap price.
Don't get me wrong, Harris is a good player and I think he's going to make the roster of CBJ in the future, but we're overloaded with top 6 Ds.
We get a 2nd-rd pick on top of that? WOW! Completely wow!
It changes everything!
I've reassessed my position; the Habs will not get a top 7-8 draft pick in 2025.
Before the trade, I've had SJ, CHI, ANA, CBJ and CAL in the bottom 5.
Most would agree SJ, CHI and ANA are obvious bottom 5.
Considering I was previously high on CBJ for 2023-24 and they "let me down", now I'm low on them for 2024-25.
I put CAL in there, because I think they're going to tank the next 2 seasons for a shot at Hagens in 2025 and McKenna in 2026.
6-10 bracket, I had MTL, SEA, OTT, UTA and WAS. That was my top 10 in no particular order.
I had PIT, PHI, BUF, and MIN in the 11-14 bracket, then STL, NYI, DET and NJ in the 15-18 bracket.
I'm was high on NJ last year, but they underperformed. However, they've improved. I'm still high on them.
I was low on DET at the start of the season but high at the end. I am high on them this time around.
NOW, the Laine trade blows all of that out of the water.
The Habs jumped from 6-10 to 13-18.
Right now, I don't think they will make the playoffs but I do think they'll be part of race.
Most of us probably expect NYR, FLA, BOS, TOR, CAR, and TB to be part of the 2025 playoffs.
That leaves us with NYI and WAS.
I think WAS is going to drop a bit.
I am not high on NYI either.
I favor NJ, DET, PIT, MTL.
There's BUF and PHI who could surprise.
Who knows maybe NJ's going to let me down again, and PIT will drop a bit.
That would be a race between NJ, DET, MTL, NYI, BUF and PHI.
Moreover, if TB drops out of the playoffs, things could get very interesting.
Things could be twice as interesting if OTT decides to be part of the party.
Simply incredible! This is the best deal Kent Hughes made so far.
Patrick Laine will be happy in MTL and he's going to fit in perfectly.
The super optimistic take for the Habs in 2024-25:
Slaf 80-90pts, 40 goals 50 assists. ~ 42g 50a 92pts
Caufield 75-80pts, 40 goals 40 assists. ~ 41g 37a 78pts
Suzuki 80-85pts, 35 goals 50 assists. ~ 37g 47a 84pts
Dach 70-75pts, 25 goals 50 assists. ~ 29g 44a 73pts
Laine 70-75pts, 40 goals 35 assists ~ 37g 35a 72pts
Hutson 60-70pts, 25 goals 55 assists. ~ 28g 41a 69pts
Laine and Demodov now need a number one cenrwe.
