Iām way more for Schultz than Barrie at this point.
Bouchard needs to prove he is worth the reported $10MM he's seeking for his next contract. So, IMO, you split Bouchard and Ekholm because we need Ekholm to mentor a youngster. Barrie would be great even though he's getting older.
I'm not opposed to Nurse & Bouch. But I think I'd prefer Eks with Stecher. & Kulak with Embersson. Reason being I feel like each pair should have a shut down & puck mover. If you have the combos you mentioned you would have a 2nd shut down set (which may be good for protecting leads, but would slow down zone exits) and a 3rd pair of puck movers with no shut down players.
Splitting up Ekholm/Bouch is like moving Mcdavid to a 3rd line checking role. Id rather we role with Nurse/hot hand and get all the analytic guys searching for his perfect partner
I don't think Bouchard is as effective without Ekholm!
I can see this working well but I also do have time for a nurse-Emberson pairing. Giving nurse a solid defensive partner may allow him to play to his strengths he is a physical guy great skater has a decent shot when he makes the simple play he does it effectively and I feel like he has been shoehorned into a role where heās expected to be physical shot blocker and cover for defensive lapses by his partner and I donāt think thatās the game that earned him that big booty contract he was a fast physical two way player who wasnāt exceptional in either end but was basically klefbom light who brought a bigger hitting game and was counted on to be the team heavyweight when the gloves come off. And I think that having a defensive partner is better
