[Seravalli] The trade is one for one. To #NHLJets: Brayden Yager To #Pens: Rutger McGroarty Both players were picked 14th overall, one year apart. Yager helped Moose Jaw to the Memorial Cup, McGroarty indicated to Jets he would not sign there.

I feel like this is fair for both sides. I can’t find a reason to be upset.. Lets go Yager Bombs!!!!!

I love this for both teams.

Pens get a guy on an ELC who can play in their top-6 right now and give them good cheap minutes as they try to compete with Crosby and Malkin before the wheels fall off.

Jets get a guy who probably needs another year in junior, but are set up very well at centre for the next decade between Lambert and Yager.

This is pretty much the best case scenario here for us outside of a blockbuster where we include Mcgroarty and other assets to upgrade at a position of need for the short term.

Edit: Dobberprospects has both Yager and Lambert projected to be somewhere between ‘superstar’ and ‘1st liner’. LFG!!!

Edit 2: I’ve thought about it some more and this is the type of trade that keeps the competitive window open for like another five years. You’re set at Centre until 2030. Down the wings we have Vilardi, Perfetti, Barlow, Chibrikov, Rashevsky(?) and others. Helle will give you at least league average until he retires. We just really desperately need some high-end defensive prospects.

    I’m happy with this!

Can’t wait to scream Yager Bomb every time he scores!

Goated prospect name for another goated prospect name. Solid deal I think

Rutger will probably be the better player long term, but as a centre Yager will probably be more valuable to us. Don’t hate it.

Out with McGroarty- only one Nebraskan per franchise. That’s why Pitt moved Guentzel; to make room for McGroaner.

Rutger went 14th overall in a weak draft and Yager went 14th overall in a deep draft. Therefore the Jets won the trade.

I’ll take it the return for a guy who doesn’t want to play here was never gonna match but idk it’s another undersized forward already part of a team with mostly undersized forwards in the top 6.

  9. Serious question, where do I go to get a YAGER nameplate to slap on the back of a #29 Laine jersey?

  10. Astrowelkyn

At least the Jets maintain their cool name surplus.

Now this would be funny. Yager makes the jets before mcgoarty makes the pens lol

The important thing about this trade is that both teams come out equal in the “damn fine hockey name” factor.

Chevy needs to check citizenship a little closer on draft day. Stanley cups have more Canadian names engraved on them than any other nationality. Canadian prairie kids know the lifestyle and environment and tend to be more down to earth. Nobody from the U.S. or Eastern Canada really wants to play in Winnipeg. Kyle Connor will be the next one wanting out.

  14. Is Yager expected to play on Canada’s WJC team this Christmas? I believe he’s still eligible as he turns 20 on January 3.
