I’ve never seen a Cade Webber game myself, so I’m going purely off of what others have said. The fact that Webber’s been lauded for his defense is good, and the single season NCAA blocks record is something to get excited about, you’d like to see a bit more offence out of him but (again bearing in mind that I haven’t seen this guy play a minute of hockey in my life) I wonder if part of that is a usage issue. Regardless, we got him for a 6th and most 6ths don’t turn into much, so if Webber becomes anything for us, even a good AHLer, I’ll take it as a win.

I think people have really inflated expectations for Webber because the Leafs ‘targeted’ him in a trade, but I think the short comments at the end of the article do a great job explaining why we shouldn’t expect anything from him in the NHL. I’ve seen too many fans talk about this guy getting NHL games this year. The actual article itself dances around Webber’s shockingly obvious lack of offensive talent with far too much fluff about things off the ice.

If you’re gonna go for a D in this mold, a guy like Danford (while still not being a high ceiling prospect) is a way better use of draft capital, because he’s shown at least a competent level of offense in juniors.
