  1. Sad to see yager go but if what I’m reading is true I’m excited for what mcgroarty can bring to the table

  2. 1:05 WHAT DO YOU MEAN ONLY ONE PLAYS IN THE DUB THOSE ARE CLEARLY TWO DUB GUY WITH DUB NAMES and I’m pretty sure one them play on my Wheat Kings but that could be Wheaton King I was thinking of

  3. An Unbiased analysis:

I think you hit the nail on the head with everyone wins here. Yager gonna have an easier battlefield not having to compete with Sid, Geno and a heavy backfill of Centers. McGroarty gets his NHL time. Winnipeg gets strong return for losing their top prospect and Pittsburgh gets help now and later. Win all around for all parties.

    As a Penguins Fan Perspective:

Elated and also disappointed. McGroarty was someone I was hoping Dubas would call about. Bit of an upgrade from Yager. Seems a bit more versatile and he signed immediately indicating to me he’s ready and wants to be here…excellent. However as you pointed out Winnipeg was against a wall here and likely receiving pretty low grade offers. I think moving Pickering in exchange or even Poulin and a 2nd could have still got the deal done and allowed us to keep Yager (who was quickly progressing, has a high ceiling, and thrilled to be here. Helped he had prior playing experience with Tanner Howe who we drafted this past draft).

  4. I wonder how hesitant canadian teams are about drafting NCAA guys. Theres a decent list of them that refused to play for their draft team.

  5. Dubas knows he has to get the team rolling this year to get sid signed on the contract, probably whats going on behind the scenes. Rutger could be a huge piece to them making the playoffs. Yager was praised among the pittsburgh staff and fans, must have had something to do with sid for him to trade.

  6. The Pens are trying to do a mini rebuild that comes back before Crosby retires. It's a tight window. They tried to plug holes with vets last off-season and it didn't work, so now they're selling this season and probably next for picks, prospects and lotto ticket reclamation projects. The dead cap and overpaid players all drop off in 1-2 years, at which point the picks and prospects will be used to load up for one last run. Closest example is a Rangers style short rebuild. Question is whether Sid, Geno, Letang and Karlsson have anything left on the other side of this.

  7. Surprised Winnipeg got a really good prospect back in return considering having zero leverage. Hoping this college players requesting out before even entering the league thing doesn’t become a major trend. As a caps fan I’d prefer if Leonard didn’t do that but I can’t sit here and say him returning to school this upcoming season isn’t making me wonder. Perhaps it’s something that gets addressed in the next cba? Not sure but it seems kinda bullshit that teams can have top prospects refuse to show up.

  8. As a Pens fan Ibalmost don't know what to think. Did I hope theybwoukd trade for RM… yes. Did they just trade our first good prospect since Derrick Pouliot (yes I know how that turned out long term but he was WHL d man of the year the season after draft). Yes they got someone potentially better that can play right now. I had high hopes Yager was goingbto keep growing after being such a beast in the playoffs and turn into a Michael peca type center. Hopefullybitbgoes well for both kids and teams.

  9. A legit 1-for1 trade with an A+ grade for both teams. Not often you see that. Time will tell if it stays that way.

  10. McGroarty will fit right in with the Pens because he's already as slow as all their old guys.

  11. New background. Same old dubas find the kid he wants, trades for him, immediate deal and then…. Who knows. 🤷‍♂️

  12. The Pens had a huge hole on the first line until this trade. Rutger has a pretty good chance at starting the season out next to Sid.

  13. Teams who select a player in round 1 that refuses to sign should receive a compensation pick between rounds 1 and 2
