Emberson played with the coach in the AHL. He knows the coach, he knows the system the coach employs and the coach knows how he played. I believe Emberson can become an elite level shut down defenseman under this coach.
He played 18 mins a night last night with a -4. Couldn't he be in our top 4

The problem with looking at analytics in hockey is there is not set variable. It's not like in baseball where the batter is always in the batters box, pitcher is always on the mound, etc, etc. Emberson is in his 4th NHL program at 24 years old that says something. He wasn't even a top 4 dman on SJ what makes you think he is going to be a top guy on the Oilers?
The Stan Bowman haters need to wake up. Holland couldn’t have pulled off the trades and signings Bowman did if he had the entire season instead of a week! BTW, has anyone else noticed that Yamamoto is doing a PTO this summer?
Somebody unexpected is going to have to be a top 4 defenseman, at least until the trade deadline, and they're going to have to do it beside Nurse, who's not always the easiest or the most predictable partner on the planet.
It looks like the Oilers offense is capable of scoring a lot of goals, and it looks like they might have to.
I think it’s truly a very optimistic view point to think Emberson is a lock to step up and be a top 4 D-man.
Like many other Oiler fans I don’t know much about him. I do know the oilers however and they are a fast skating, and effective puck moving team. ( when they play at their peak level ) Emberson has been scouted as a guy who can make a quick, short pass. Which should help him when it comes to breaking the puck out of the zone.
