The Rise and Fall (And Rise Again) of the 2005 – 2024 Boston Bruins

The Rise and Fall (And Rise Again) of the 2005 – 2024 Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins have been one of the top franchises in the National Hockey League, a team loved (and sometimes hated) by many – how did their decision-making in the offices lead to one Stanley Cup victory and three Finals, with deep playoff campaigns on occasion? Why does the future look just as good for Boston? That is what I reviewed in this video, going chronologically into each of the nineteen seasons that defined the ultimate success of this team.

NOTE: There were a few numbers that were incorrect; these were corrected in the CC. To see all corrected pieces of information, refer to the CC. Rask’s performances in the 2009/10 season were from mid-November to the end of the year, not December; Fraser played 24 games, not 37, before going to Edmonton; Lohrei was selected 58. overall in 2020, not 46.; the Bruins broke the single-season wins record in 2023/24 – the 2018-19 Lightning were tied for the best team in NHL history in wins prior, but prior to the Bruins, they were the best team in the modern era (2000-). Another thing that should be noted is that the Editor In Leaf article states Peter Chiarelli as GM during the Rask trade, but Gorton was GM until 8. July 2006 and only after was Chiarelli able to take the position.

  1. The Korpisalo trade had a variety of factors to it, the $3 million salary per year (was $4 million, but Ottawa retains 25 %) being a major part of it, but the reliability of Korpisalo / Ullmark being crucial to it and that is what stood out to me when reviewing it. Just like with the Ullmark acquisition, everyone has their own opinions – what are your thoughts on the trade that brought this full-circle?
