Let me know your thoughts on the Oilers off season
My Grade for the Oilers' GM report card is B-
I see it as a B+, however, it can easily and very quickly turn into an A+, if:
1. Holloway and Broberg don't confirm any investement by the Blues
2. Emberson, Podz, Savoie all confirm and positivelly surprise, which I almost expect
3. They add good D before the deadline
4. Draisaitl is signed, etc.
Not sure why you're so low on the draft day trade. The oilers likely saw O'Reilly as a top 15-20 prospect and figured he was tremendous value at 32.
No Mike the Oilers have lost team speed in a very fast league. Fogele, McCloud, Broberg and Holloway were fast! All Gone! Skinner and Aviddson are older and slower. Forward group and D are both worse!! Just wait until the injuries pile up on the forwards who are prone to injury. Then there is no youthful energy to replace them zero!!
Canadian pundits tugging Edmonton as hard as they can .
Sad.
Oāreilly is still an asset that can be moved at the deadline. Like they did with their 1st Schaffer to acquire Ekholm. If they donāt move him he is a year ahead in his development than the player they might draft this year. Makes sense to me if they see something in the kid. Not signing broberg & holloway before they were tendered offers is a clear F. The way the dealt with it was a B.
Regarding the offer sheets and aspect that you seem to be overlooking is when you have vets taking less to stay and the superstars allegedly negotiating team friendly long term deals you canāt have 2 players coming out of entry level who neither have hit the 100 game mark dictating the salary structure for the next 2 seasons.
Iām in the minority but Iām glad the Oilers didnāt match these offers as they actually can accrue cap space in season and also truly analyze what they have to do to improve the team properly as opposed to being hamstrung with LTIR shenanigans and a busted cap.
Oil an F.
