  1. The ref should have consulted with the VAR team for the whole incident before making any decisions. Diaz push on Schar – yellow. Schar squaring up to Diaz and Diaz doing the same back – a red each according to the rulebook. Diaz simulation – 2nd yellow. So the ref can send them both off or show a bit of discretion and yellow the pair of them with a final warning.

  2. Iโ€™m a saints fan I donโ€™t like what brereton Diaz did but it is a red card by the letter of the law. You always risk getting sent off putting your head towards anyone elseโ€™s face. Souness has a point but by the law schar was sent off

  3. I'm not certain we understand the rules here? any kind of movement here and it's a red if Diaz stays on his feet Schar stays on the field so why would he? the rules are the problem not the player sort out the rule.

  4. Oh shataaaap, if ronaldo does it then winks at the bench youโ€™d suck him off all night about it, get over it its part of the game, Schar is an idiot for getting himself in that situation.

  5. Thereโ€™s no arguement at all Diaz needs to get sent off first yellow for the barge on schar of the ball and then the second yellow for the cheating incident if you watch it back Diaz actually initiates contact

  6. Football has a choice: is it a worse offense to slightly push your forehead against an opponent's forehead in an obviously benign way, or is it worse to blatantly cheat by embarrassingly faking injury in a deliberate attempt to get your opponent sent off. That should be a total no-brainer, but the game is totally brainless. Same as PSR: obviously insane and unfair but it just continues.

  7. Just realised the problem: football today is the reflection of people like Simon Jordan, not Souness.

  8. All laws are based on fairness and justice, all of which contain in them a firmly woven experiential societal fabric of "common sense". Simon is purely being a pseudo-intellectual, petty contrarian
