  1. I think Justin is better than Tkachuk, though this might be one of those trade and resign after the season types of deals for Florida. Tkachuk signed a pretty reasonable deal so bringing back Hubs might be doable. In the short term though Calgary won big time

  2. Generational over-pay by the Panthers. Flames could flip huber and Weegar at the deadline as true rentals for 2 more 1st round picks and other goodies. This may be an epic rebuild strategy by the Flames, because they aren't back to where they were before losing JG and MT.

Just a thought. Could this be a clever cap move by the Panthers? They have a ton of cap coming off in 2023……could they sign Huber in 2023? Did Florida let the Flames know they have no chance to extend Huber, so they had to give so much to get it done?

  3. Florida and Vegas are a good comparison where they will spend- they like to get the big time players without really managing the long-term cap situation. Risky for Calgary being Huberdeau and Weegar are UFA's next summer, Prospect is mid-level and the first rounder is top 10 protected. FLA is still tight on the cap giving MY 9.5 Million AAV, will Florida be able to get the depth players needed to move forward in the playoffs? Chris Drury is continuing to try to get bottom 6 improved albeit Rangers are tight on the cap with players getting new deals (Fox, Zib, and Miller and Laf soon) Last year of Buyouts thanks to Sather and Gorton.

  4. What Lou really needs for the Islanders is a scorer relative to a Troy Terry (RW) in my opinion. Second, a puck moving defensive man who skillset is getting the play transition quickly from the defensive zone to the neutral zone. The NHL the last few years or so play a very similar systematic Hockey systems- hence why many college players are making a quicker transition being many college programs are similar these days to what the NHL deploys across the NHL. Just thought is this point but maybe Lou needs to have or provide the opportunity for his coaching staff to play a more uptempo similar systems in the NHL and get those players that play a more up temp who can score. Many times watching the Islanders, I felt like the game was moving slow, kinda like a trap system and having 4 players just stacked at the defensive zone, maybe the wingers have to focus more of defensive play, forechecking, etc… rather than opening things up. Barzal needs a lightning rod with him in my opinion.
