There’s been some interesting conversations surrounding the Montreal Canadiens potential interest in draft eligible Russian forward Matvei Michkov. #habs #russia #nhl #montrealcanadiens #montreal #canada #hockey
at first i thought — no way!! – when i read your title. but then i thought of rolling out CC on line 1 & then coming back with this guy on line 2, that is a dynamic two lines with two guys with great one time shots. so, yes it would be a good pick. but i dont think he will be around unless the habs move up into the top 3. not sure how his father issue will effect him…..
20 points in 30 games played in the KHL. Bedard had 143 points in 57 games in the WHL. I find it hard to believe that Bedard wouldn't have managed more than 20 points in 30 KHL games.
I cannot believe this video made no mention at all of Michkov's father being murdered 3 weeks ago. Some speculate it was a message to all Russian players that going to the NHL is off limits. The circumstances of his father's death are extremely suspicious and this has been in the news recently.
The closer the draft comes I dont want us to pick him exactly for the reason of him staying in the khl but at the same time being compared to Ovi is making me want him
Michkov is still another small player that Habs have had too many over the years ; that is a negative…3 years wait on the chance he may be able and wish to come out of Russia ,is another negative ……….HuGo are angling to get players that are a little older and ready for their NHL formative years so Michkov doesn't fit the program either …..With all the negatives it would be foolish to pass up on good solid talent that is otherwise available. They are building a team to contend , therefore , why gamble ?? Why set up several years of drama / distraction problems …It would be bad business as the Habs have to get Logan into the NHL onto the team and accepted by the fans before another PR issue is tackled …
It will depends on who will be available at the moment. If I can't get Fantilli / Carlsson / Smith, i think its a no-brainer to take a chance on a possible generational talent like Michkov at pick #6 – #7. His size is a big concern though.

What are your thoughts on Michkov to the Habs?
that would be putin a lot on the line with a pick who might not ever come over
Michkov will be available lower, American teams won't draft him.

Draft him then get him over the same way they got Svobota
Such a risk. If he not physically at the draft I saw no way. The situation with his dad and Russia is very concerning. He may never play in the NHL .

Yes please! Worth the wait if they can get him!
