“The fact that’s gone on this long probably doesn’t suggest good things, encouraging things,” Johnston said. “The longer it goes and he doesn’t have a contract, it doesn’t look like he’s gonna end up with one. But the best I can say right now is I don’t know 100% it’s not going to go that way, just the writing doesn’t appear to be too encouraging. This would be just a case where the Leafs would have concern or their doctors or whoever they’re relying on for advice that it’s too big of a risk that he won’t be able to play because of the condition of his knee.”
Sure seems like Hakanpaa is not going to become a Leaf, but we’ll see

This was my fav pickup when I heard we got him… the contract and player is insanely good for value. If his knee wasn’t gone…
Sucks about his knee…….

It sounds like CJ is just talking to say something here. Absolutely no information, just a “hunch” or a “feeling”.
I’ll add my thoughts. Since no one has come out and said that he won’t be playing, I feel that the longer they go without confirming he’s done for does suggests good things.

I remember getting blasted here months ago about this. It was all fishy once they didn’t sign right away.
The article came from Simmons and guy turned out to be right lmaao

My story has always been that there is some damage, he’s taking the summer to rehab, he’ll be re-evaluated closer to camp.

Bro had a quota before he was allowed to go to Muskoka for the long weekend

Part of it is likely that the leafs don’t have any LTIR guys this year so they can actually accrue cap space for once and have more space at the deadline. Not worth the risk ruining that for a #6-7 d man

Has anyone asked Chris the status of water? Last I heard it was wet, but since it’s taking this long…

Seems a little… concerning that Treliving has now signed (or almost signed) three guys with secret injury problems. I guess this process *is* the Leafs doing due diligence on Hakanpaa, but it’s certainly odd after the Klingberg and Reaves stuff last season.

I wish him the best for the future, on or off the ice

Hope CJ isn’t right, cus that would mean Steve Simmons was right two months ago.

Chris Johnston has no idea what he’s talking about. He never does. He draws straws out of a pile and hopes he guesses right. He puts all the factual stuff on line 5 min after the rest of the hockey world knows.
