  1. Can you address the first individual as the Athletic Trainer for the team? The first responders for professional sports injuries are primarily Athletic Trainers, not physicians or EMS.

  2. He was released from the hospital the following day and is now being watched by team physicians in his home. Thankfully it turned out to be less serious than as it looked but I still wish him a speedy recovery. I expect to see him return with a dimmed visor next season.

  3. So I have a little experience with something semi like this, only not a sports injury, instead a car crash. Drunk lady pulled out right in front of a pickup with a camper on it. I tried hard to get her to stay in her car til the fire people got there. She didn’t. Medics got there like 10 mins or less after. The lady left the scene and called her friends , and suddenly it was a confusing situation. At a bare minimum she needed her arm worked on as she had a laceration on it from metal . She wasn’t wearing her seatbelt I don’t think . Idk what happened to her but last I heard she had collapsed and complained of neck/back pain. I told the supervisor for the medics what I had observed, and the sheriffs deputies what I had seen. End result is that people who get concussions and/or brain trauma are confused . Dr. Brian is correct, and I had issues with a drunk lady, I couldn’t imagine an athlete being confused / combative .

  4. Legit, freak accident

thank you for explaining this – as someone who lives 2 hrs from Toronto and watches the leafs alot cuz my team doesnt get TV time up here in Canada unless its playoffs (anaheim my team), But this was scary for any hockey fan

  5. You know a injury is bad when we spend days talking about it afterwards, but ignore the nasty knee on knee hit that put the guy in that position in the first place.

  6. Hockey guys… toughest of all athletes. A baseball player has a sore muscle and he’s on IR. An NFL player gets his knee injured and he leaves with his jewelry for months or years. Soccer folks? Grab their knees and look for a red card.

  7. Im so glad that people are more understanding to the fact Perry didnt mean to do this. You can be sure Perry feels awful about it.

  8. I’m so glad he is ok, I’m upset Foligno fraught Perry knowing this was accidental, and there are far worse intentional incidents, what if Perry went down with a serious injury after the fight? Fighting is better when it’s spontaneous not pre meditated

  9. I am assuming that the description of the brain slamming into the skull causing the concussion was purely for description to the lay person as we know that this is not the mechanism in which concussions occur. I did however, really enjoy your commentary on this sequence. Speedy recovery to JT.

  10. I am a long, long suffering Leafs fan. The Gilmour spearing deserved a severe ass kicking BUT, the contact with Perry was purely accidental in my opinion. Foligno is new to the team looking for his "bones" possibly, but fighting with Perry was completely uncalled for and it is not part of the hockey "code" to retaliate in the vent of an "accidental" hit.
Bruce Boudreau is absolutely right. !!!!!!

  11. You didn't mention his pose with one arm extended out after the hit indicating a brain trauma. You discussed this with MMA fighters.

  12. Awesome breakdown….makes me want to be a medical doctor. It was broken down specifically and thoroughly explained. Thanks Doc!! 👍🏽🤘🏽💪🏽

  13. The numbers are staggering. The Maple Leafs haven't won a playoff series since 2004. They have eight straight losses in series-clinching games. And they've lost a winner-take-all game in four straight postseasons: three Game 7s

  14. Man as a Habs fan I freaked the hell out when Tavares got hit, hell even I had a few tears in my eyes hoping the dude was okay. No matter what team you represent it’s a game and we’re all human. Hopefully we see JT come back better than ever next season!

  15. I cried watching this one. Tavares was one of my favorite players when he was on the Island, and seeing this happen to him was so scary.

  16. Can you do a review of "The SOF Medical Handbook" or "The Ranger Medical Handbook"? If I am right one of the books says something about not using some of the techniques in a hospital/clinical area

  17. Wow that happened to me in a football game.(knee to the head) No concussion protocol back in the 70s. Smelling salts and go set on the bench until you felt better

  18. I am a Flyers fan, and I only cheer on the flyers, but when I saw that, I gasped and started to cry( I thought his neck was broken) that was scary to watch! The way he just went backwards when he was kneeling on the ice..I sobbed omg!

    So glad he is ok!
