Another NHL Team Offers Up Its Games To Stream For Free, and It Isn’t the Colorado Avalanche

The Anaheim Ducks are the latest NHL team to offer all of its games to fan living in the viewing area, free of charge. This is the sixth team to go the route of free streaming, and if there is a team that should be at the forefront of this wave its the Colorado Avalanche. But they have yet to do so. Why?

We also dive into The Athletic ranking of prospect pipelines, and where they have the Avalanche is worse than where they had them last year. We discuss.

  1. Speaking just in theory, is it better to trade for a vet or is it better to trade up to draft a ready or near ready player?

  2. Still blacked out for local on ESPN+. Local sports bars can't even show games depending on what service they subscribe to. Forcing fans to use "other means" which doesn't give revenue to anyone.

  3. I also have a feeling that's why we are seeing on air talent leaving, without the advertising $ coming in because of limited viewership, they aren't going to be able to retain talent or keep up the quality of the broadcasts.

  4. I live in New Zealand. The only Avs games I get to see is the 4 or 5 per season that happens to be on the 2 ESpN channels (shared with every other sport) during the season. We do get the playoff games but only if the eastern games don’t go into overtime etc. would love a stream of the games if it was available!!

  5. After all the years as their biggest fan and commentator, Peter Mcnabb passed away, only able to be heard by Dish network subs, or people who tapped into illegal streams. Monumental disservice to him and everyone who loved the voice of the Avs.

  6. I would gladly pay if altitude could stream like some of the other teams do. I've been pirating since the dispute.

  7. The thing is Altitude has streamed games. Probably still are. Back when they were on Comcast I could go to their website and with my Comcast login watch games at work. Easy.

  8. I'm blacked out from watching the Avalanche on Altitude on ESPN+ living 60 miles from Kansas City. I'm 600 miles from Denver and still in a Blckout area. Hard to understand. I have found ways around these restrictions, but considering my location shouldn't have to.

  9. People really need to understand: WE ILLEGALLY STREAM MOST GAMES!!! The ones I don’t are the ones I can watch on my local TV for free

  10. Need to give these prospects a chance!! Use the 4th line to get them experience, not just 1 or 2 games , give them a more of a chance , AVS like going after the new shiny object on other teams

  11. The Kroenke’s own the following sports teams the Avs, Nuggets, Rapids, Mammoth, LA Rams, London Arsenal, LA Gladiators, LA Guerillas, plus the Altitude Sports Network. Not to mention Stan Kroenke married into the Walton family who founded Walmart and who now owns the Denver Broncos. so regardless of costs, it’s not like they don’t have the ability to offer streaming services for their fan bases and feels like they just don’t want to part with money to invest in it. To be fair it could have something to do with them already being invested with the Altitude Network and what might happen to it if they offer streaming services but feel like they could find a way to incorporate it to still make money. To me this situation is just mind boggling because if they were to create something for the fans, in the end it would do 2 things, build up the fanbases, essentially growing the sports, and bring in revenue from sales of tixs to merchandise, etc… which sounds like a win-win for both the Kroenke’s and the fans. Let’s hope they follow other teams and get on board with something soon.

  12. The Avs have always been a bit indifferent about their TV viewership. Remember their first year when they tried to go “pay per view”” in ‘96? Perhaps it b/c of their star studded team & cup victory, they discovered they didn’t need to market and have an aggressive outreach program. But Altitude’s coverage is a step below most established NHL coverage and comes across as homers & amateurish. The bottom line is the ownership doesn’t care.

  13. What on this good earth makes us think that Kroenke will provide this service for free or even for a reasonable rate? Kroenke moved his football team and expected the NFL to pay his fines. He got into a battle because he wants to make more money on Altitude and service providers said no way (which is reasonable on their part for a number of reasons). He even purchased a huge ranch in BC and kicked off fishermen from the lakes they used to access publicly and used lawyers to keep them off the lakes that had been publicly stocked. Just do a quick search using Kroenke law suit fishing if you like…Kroenke would not give you a dollar to save his life, so why would we expect the Avs to be available for free or even for a reasonable amount? Please explain, given the reality of the Kroenke greed. Doesn't matter that he has billions. It's his nature to take. Love the Avs, but this owner is not going to do us any favors.
