Absolutely shocked and heartbroken. 31 years old. Just riding a bike. Speechless

Oh my god that poor family. What a catastrophe. RIP. 🙁

Be kind to each other today. I feel sick to my stomach

A great family man who is gone way too soon. Chose to play here for us to be closer to family and raise his kids in the city we all love. Rest in peace Johnny and Matthew

I was really hoping to wake up to better news after reading the rumor last night. Holy fuck. This is an absolute tragedy. My heart goes out to his family.

I am fucking sick. I am so sorry CBJ brothers.

Being a fan of this team is hard. Love to all of you today.

  9. Fucking devastating. Johnny meant more to this fan base than anyone will understand. He wanted to be here. He embraced us. I can’t imagine what his family is going through and I’m just so sad. Rip to him and his brother.

Nothing quite like crying as soon as you wake up. What a terrible situation.

Just crushing man. RIP. Bikers out there please protect yourselves, so terrible how it can happen to anyone.

    Endless prayers for the family.

  12. Condolences to the Gaudreau family, and I feel awful that the CBJ org/fanbase are going through this just 3 years after the Kivlenieks tragedy.

Hugs and warm wishes today, y’all.

Fuck me. This is terrible. I can’t imagine what his family is going through. Especially his sister. Today was her wedding day.

  14. MayorGoldieWilson3

Absolutely awful. Celebrating his sister’s wedding? Prayers to his family.

  15. Violent_Mud_Butt

This family will never be the same. Losing your two brothers on the day of your wedding. Holy shit what a horrible thing.

    That is absolutely devastating.

    Hug your loved ones everyone.

Why this team and franchise again? why? Heartbroken for his family and especially his wife and children.

  17. Van_Foosen

I’m so honored that I had the privilege of watching him play in-person. Johnny Hockey lives on forever.

  18. As both a hockey fan and avid cyclist, this hits hard. Way too many on-road tragedies. Whether you are out on a bike or in your car; pay attention. Be safe.

It just hit me that their folks have to make funeral plans for their sons on what was supposed to be the day of their daughter’s wedding and I think I’m actually going to get sick.

RIP Johnny and Matthew. Thoughts and love to their family and friends.

Panthers fan here. I remember him at a game against us being very generous with fans during the warmups, more so than I’ve ever seen another away player be. Had a lot of respect for him ever since. Awful news for the family and fanbase.

Dude as if it couldn’t be sadder. He was going to be a groomsman in his sister’s wedding tonight (Friday)

  22. FilmArchivist

    RIP

Was there any particular charity Johnny Hockey was deeply involved with? Perhaps as hockey fans we can do something to honour him?

  23. I’m from south jersey. His dad, Guy, taught me how to play hockey at Hollydell. This is beyond sad. I’m sick to my stomach for his wife and his father. What an absolute tragedy.

Whatever else you do today, call your loved ones and remind them that you love them.
