Back to our regularly scheduled programing! By a slim margin, Jesper Fast wins most underrated player. The next one should be interesting. Who has been our worst draft pick since 2000? As always, top comment wins. Discuss!
Of recent years, Lias Anderson sucked. Maybe McIlrath. Hugh Jessiman in the stacked 2003 draft?

Huge Jessiman. In what was the greatest nhl draft ever, the rangers picked this guy

Can you make a conjoined twins photo of Sanguinetti and Jessiman?

Vitali Kravtsov
Edit: Not that he was a bad player, but it was just bad all around.

gotta be mcilrath. Could’ve had Tarasenko, Kuznetsov, or Cam Fowler instead. Probably would’ve won hank a cup 😢
edit: to clarify, Huge Specimen was definitely a big miss as well, but I don’t think any of the guys we could’ve picked instead of him would have been a difference maker on those 2000s teams. In ‘14 and ‘15 we would’ve won with a little more firepower up front or with better puck movement on D. Also, Hugh was a hometown kid, so I can’t really be mad at the team for picking him.

Oh man so options, I lean towards McIlrath

Definitely Huge Specimen

Hugh Jessiman, the Huge Specimen. To be fair he had a pretty bad ankle injury if I remember right during his last year at Dartmouth – but his game dropped off big time and he never replicated what he showed his draft year.

McIlrath.

Its Hugh and its not even close.
Look up the history of that draft. Dustin Brown, Steve Bernier, Brent Seabrook, Zach Parise, Eric Fehr, Ryan Getzlaf, Brent Burns, Mark Stuart, Ryan Kesler, Brian Boyle, Corey Perry, Patrick Eaves all picked after him. some may not be elite but a lot of them had long careers. Most playing 600+ games. Some were franchise changing players.
Hugh? 2 total games and not even with us. He made his. HL debut 8 years after the draft. Yea Lias and kravtsov and others have hurt but they contributed in some way.
Hugh is not only one of our worst overall picks but he is also on lists of the worst draft picks of all time. Even in the AHL, he had 229 points in 498 games. 0.46 PPG as the 11th overall pick. Absolutely the worst fumble in our history. Imagine the late 2000s and early 2010s teams if we had seabrook, parise, burns, getzlaf or even perry. Likely history changing

Has to be McIlrath. At the time most people thought he was a third round pick at best and we took him 10th. Jessiman at least was considered a first round prospect by most
SportingWallaby
Tie between mcilrath and Jessiman… jesus was this team horrible at drafting.
Marty-Party1297
It’s gotta be jessiman simply for who we passed on to take him. Burns, getzlaf, brown, Kesler, perry, and Bergeron. The only 1st rounder in that draft to not score a single NHL point. Even Fleury had more career points than Jessiman outta that 1st round

Jessiman. McIlrath gets way too much hate. He was not a bad hockey player. Jessiman on the other hand………
SerSkydog
Seems like McIlrath will win but I’d like to make sure Dan Blackburn gets mentioned

Can’t be McIlrath because he at least, in his short time with the Rangers, beat the crap out of Wayne Simmonds after he jumped McDonagh.

Hugh Jessiman. What a debacle of a pick in a stacked draft.

Recently, Lias and Kratzov. Nils doesn’t seem like he’s doing well in Dallas. I agree with Hugh or McIlrath though
