Maybe Iโm biased but I donโt understand the qualification maths at all. There are 12 teams at the Olympics. Slovakia regularly ranks between the 8-9th spot at IIHF Worlds. On top of that they won bronze at the last Olympics
So how come the team had to go through a qualifying round same as teams like Hungary, Austria, Japan, Ukraine or Great Britain? No disrespect to those teams but the arenโt on the same level as Slovakia yet they all played in the same qualifying round

This would be so much easier to look at if they’d just swapped the Russian flag out for the French one, or done some sort of half and half image. Reordering the flags makes it so much harder to try to see the difference between the two.

It’s no secret that Putin loves hockey and uses it as part of his propaganda. Since Putin is showing no sign of stopping they should use that. The IIHF should begin the process for a full expulsion from the organization so that if there ever comes a time where they are unbanned they need to go through the new membership process, start from 0 points, and make their way back up to the Championship division. Obviously that alone won’t get Putin to back off, but part of sanctions and bans is put pressure on by adding costs to what they’re doing.
