No way he was getting $14M from us though, let Edmonton have that 😭

Only way Carolina would pay one player 14 million is if they could defer half of it. More interested in seeing how the current lineup shakes out over trying to guess who will be a UFA.

I know the cap is going up but $14m is a *ton*.

This makes the Aho/Svech/Jarvis/Slavin deals look incredible.

The Canes have been “in” on every $10 million player that has been reportedly available.  Eichel, Tkachuk, Pettersson, Meier (lesser player), etc.

These players just never shake out and even if they did the Canes will never be the highest bidder.  Even high-upside prospects like McGroarty and Askarov they lose out on.

There is a slot for a $10+ million player as soon as next year but I think it is infinitely more likely with a retread like Huberdeau if he bounces back a bit

WOW, that’s a shit ton of their cap locked in there.

I mean they got to the Finals so it’s working out but there is no way the Canes would pay that much.

Were we ever really expecting that to happen?

He wasn’t coming here. Big names simply don’t come to Raleigh and we don’t hand out contracts that massive. If Edmonton wants to go the same route as Toronto by having 4 guys take up their entire cap, that’s on them lmao we know how that will end.

Wait until they sign McDavid next off-season. That might be $16 million or more – and that means over 1/3 of their salary tied up in 2 players. Is there anyone else we want in Oil Country? They will have to shed salary. Just no more defensemen from these guys!

14 mil per season is wild. Don’t think the Canes would ever offer that much.

Who actually thought there was a chance in hell he’d be a Cane?

No way would Draisaitle leave the Oilers freewheeling offensive system and playing with Hockey Jesus to play for Rod next to any of our guys

Only a Homer Canes fan would ever think Draisatl was coming here.

Also, this is why Canes should be counting their lucky stars that Jarvis clearly doesn’t care much about money otherwise he should have signed a shorter bridge deal, had another really good season or two and then with cap increasing could have commanded -$10M/yr.
