As an oilers fan, watching Bouchard fumble non stop defensively, if you think he’s getting 10 million you need your head examined, that’s another nurse contract that will age badly, trade him next summer for another ekholm and call it a day

When you consider when he signed for 12.5 and where the cap is going… .. The max is 17.5 now, and by the time he's ready for an extension, it will be more, so yeah, I could see 18.5 × 8 years.

8:12 I know you were being hyperbolic, but just a reminder that the maximum salary allowed for an individual player is 20% of the salary cap. A 16M deal being a 20M pay cut would imply that the salary cap is at least 180M.

They had to pay Drai. Their window is the next 2 years. Even when they resign McDavid to a similar deal there’s younger teams coming up that will be better than the Oilers in 2 years.

I have no worries the Oilers will be able to fit them all in easily, barely an inconvienience. You're assuming the cap stays the same. I could easily see the cap pushing 100MM by the time Connors new deal comes on.
You pay your superstars and find diamonds who want to come and play with them for cheap (Skinner, Arvidson, Henrique etc.)
A GM was able to trade a Burns, Hertl, and Karlsson contract for cap space. I believe they will have to find a way to trade Nurse’s contract for cap space
Drai is the superior at faceoffs to Mcdavid which often goes overlooked for its importance. Congrats to Drai, he deserved to get good $ and term

Draisaitl isn't worth that big contract. He's 28 and will be declining soon. Didn't do much in the playoffs, no cup. I just don't understand the logic behind this bad financial decision.
Look to the future, if McOverrated signs a big contract (he likely will be extremely overpaid) that's 2 guys eating up roughly 1/3 of the teams salary. Seems awfully stupid considering neither of them could step up in the finals. Especially McOverrated, 4 of 7 games – ZERO POINTS!!!!! Got carried by the bench. Draisaitl wasn't earning his money either. I don't see this team making it back to the finals any time soon either. Edmonton made a terrible business decision. Oh well, I'm sure the bandwagon fans will abondon ship once the numbers start declining in a year or two.
Kane's contract really isn't that bad in all honesty. He gives solid minutes, is a physical presence and does his job. He's not out there Stat padding in the regular season and coming up empty when it matters. If they move him, you'll really see how much of an impact he has on the ice.
Bottom line – no cup, no massive contract for anyone. Especially not an 8 year deal at 28 years old 🤦 sheer stupidity.
