I don't think Draisaitl took any kind of discount. This was probably in range of the highest bidders out there. He showed his team that he's there to make money and he did that. Let's see who follows his example.

Change in cap?—-how about a change in cap, each team would have a chance to designate a player as their franchise player and would not be part of cap. Must be drafted by the team, as long as he’s still playing regardless of a trade it would apply to that team, until he retires permanently . I feel like we now call everything a steal unless it’s an out right overpayment. 14M for Drai is not a steal. It’s a justified salary for what he does on the ice. 8.5M for him, that is a steal.. he’s still on that contract for another year, don’t forget that
