Friedman on 32 Thoughts: “I think Sorokin has been battling something. I don’t know how serious it is or isn’t. The agent won’t say anything out of respect to Lamoriello. The #Isles won’t say anything. We’ll see where this goes.”

  1. Maybe a vision problem that then led to shattering his confidence?

Sorokin was getting beat clean from distance way more often this past year. Possible he wasn’t seeing the puck well.

    Peak offseason bullshit.

Too many people have podcasts. Like far, far, too many people

  3. crazyhotwheels

Unless he had something happen over the summer, wouldn’t he have already had surgery/rehab for whatever he might’ve had last year already?

  4. CupAdministrative239

Would have preferred if this was nagging to address it (surgery) in the beginning of the offseason and let Varly take the start of the season, but maybe not fixable who knows, either way really shitty news a month away from puck drop.

  5. VinPickles

Well, he did cancel his appearance at fanatics convention last month late notice. Raised a few eyebrows. Wonder whats up. Hope hes ok

If it’s something physical, it would explain the drop off last season

If it’s something mental, we have a snowballs chance in hell. Varly can only lead us so far on his own. The defense would have to stay healthy and on top of their game which is hard with the grinding style. The offense would have to remain consistent and not go anemic.

Time will tell….let’s hope for the best.

Oh fudge not good. But it’s only September no need to panic. We do still have varly.

  8. Whatever it is, could possibly explain his down season last year? Guess we won’t find out though until maybe closer to season start. This is Lou after all. But if we lose Sorokin for a bit out the gate, that is NOT good lol. Varly is great but he’s older and not sure he can sustain a full load at a high level at his age.

We need both goalies healthy at the start of the season. We can’t have what happened last year where one goalie gets injured then then the other has to take on a ridiculous amount of games with a shaky defense in front of him

  10. Like now or last year? How would you have any inkling that he’s battling something right now?

  11. I hope Ilya Sorokin is doing well, or at least ok.

  12. ensignWcrusher

He’s been battling a combination of iffy rebound control and shit Defensive zone coverage. I love Sorokin to death but, he leaves more than his share of juicy ones. Too often last year, opponents were gettig loose near the crease to bang those rebounds home. Fortunately, its fixable. If he put in the time with his goalie coach this summer, he should have already tighened that up. If coach Roy and his staff can get a bounce back out of our D-corps Sorokin can have a huge bounce back too.

  13. Please don’t tell me that it’s something very serious and that he was too good to be true all along…

  14. oldmanhockeylife

Maybe he misses home. Gotta be tough being away from home even if you’re a pro.

  15. What does this even mean? “I think” “something” “how serious it is or isn’t”

    Yay baseless speculation!

Irregardless of whatever Friedman wants to put in the universe, I hope Ilya is okay. Even without baseless speculation, he still wasn’t himself late last year and I hope for all parties involved sakes that he’s had a good summer and recharged his batteries for the upcoming season. We’re blessed to have Varly, but Ilya is the guy, now and in the future this team has invested.
