How would Gio even fit in the current D man squad? He wouldn’t get very much if any playing time.

Sure. League min for a vet with the understanding he *might* get into 15 games? Sure.

Yes. That’s the point lol. He knows he’s only going to be playing if someone goes down with injuries.

It makes sense that his most recent team spoke to him. I don’t see him playing unless it’s going to be limited games. I’d love to see him helping with the Marlies and their D prospects.

I hope he stays with us. He’s a warrior, a great man in the locker room, a mentor for all the youngsters, even if he doesn’t play 82 games, he’s still going to make a positive impact on the team.

If Hakanpaa’s knee doesn’t work, I’d love Gio back as an injury fill-in.

At this point I am fascinated with how Pridham is going to make all of this work.

CJ says Hakanpaa has a good chance at showing up to training camp, and that we are still trying to sign Robertson even though he apparently doesn’t want to be a Leaf.

And somehow we are trying to add Patches. And we gave Lorentz a PTO. Somehow math is not the answer to these questions.

Gios camp calls, treliving says “thanks, but no thanks”.

    Technically they talked.

  8. hard pass. At this point he’s an extra dman and i’d rather give those minutes to a younger guy or mid 20’s karlie trying to make the jump

Who else would you have for vet’s min to fill a 7th D spot? You don’t want a young guy who needs ice time to develop. It’s kind of perfect if they sign him

Great guy. Great to have him on the team. If he dresses for a playoff game, something has gone wrong.

Let’s move on. Giordano was barely serviceable last season.

How I imagine the conversations went:

Toronto: “Hey man. Not a lot of room but the team loves you and we’d like to keep you around at the right price.”

Calgary: “Hey old pal. How’s about you come finish your career where it all started?”

Edmonton: “Uh hey. We heard you played for the Leafs?”

Buffalo: “Bro plz we are desperate.”

  13. With the limited ice time I wouldn’t be surprised if he still finishes top 3 in blocked shots.

He doesn’t fit. He cannot even skate anymore.

He’s forcing the nhl to take him out back and shoot him and it’s embarrassing.

Surprised Oilers don’t offer him league minimum

Look at his numbers and games played last season. I love Gio but the Leafs have gotta move on. I’m sad we couldn’t get it done for him, or Spezza, or Marleau, or Thornton. All those guys. The aging veteran experiment hasn’t worked out.

I really like the guy but sentimentality aside I’m not seeing how it makes practical sense to resign him.

  18. I’m perfectly fine with him going back to Calgary for one more year. But would love to have him here to be a voice in the locker room. But he would be in a limited role.
