McCabe is the kind of top 4 D that every team covets come playoff time. He is also a great fit with Berube. If one is a Leafs fan, one wants to be a team that is hard to play against. Benoit, Tanev and McCabe will make the Leafs D tougher than they have been in recent years. Jake Muzzin was the last Leafs D who played the type of style that wins playoff rounds. But he was often hurt and really was the only one on the D side who could land a hit. McCabe is full value and has proved that. Maybe McCabe gets 8 years and a lower AAV and the contract might have a M-NTC as during the last three years of the deal, when McCabe will be 35-38 yo, he will probably not be the same player we know today.
McCabe will 32 years old when his new contract. He's just no needed. Leafs have plenty of LHD. Seems absurd to be giving up long term contracts to players that have peaked.

I like Jake McCabe and I am really hoping they can get a deal done, but he is also the type of player you have to be careful when it comes to both Term and $$ but for the right contract that works for both sides, hell ya!
