I really thought he’d end up signing with The Bruins before this Swayman mess. And yes, you said it. McJesus, is going to have to take a MASSIVE Home Town Discount if the pair are going to stay together. He can afford it if he really wants to remain in Edmonton. His endorsements with CCM are going to dwarf anything an NHL team can pay him. And that’s probably his biggest endorsement. Never mind the 100’s of others I’m sure he’s got. I’d be worried if I were an Oilers fan. This signing might be an indication that McDavid has already made it clear that he will not be re-upping with Edmonton at the end of his current contract. Maybe signing Leon now is a concession to the fanbase. ‘Yeah, we spoke to Connor about what he’d be looking for and he told us flat out, “I’m going to test the waters” We knew we wouldn’t be able to compete with an American Market team even if the salary was the same, taxes , taxes, taxes
It’s amazing how many of these same kind of YouTube videos don’t comment at all about where the Salary Cap is projected to be by the time these contracts kick in. Most pundits are expecting the cap to be around 100mil by the time McDavid’s next contract starts. If there are problems, Nurse’s contract won’t seem as bad by then or eat up so much room. He may want a change of scenery to so Darnell might be ok with waiving his NMC
If Edmonton wants cap space to keep McDavid they need to somehow trade or buy out Nurse and or Kane, and they might also have to trade Bouchard or let him walk away for nothing when hes a free agent. Mcdavid probably deserves more than 20 million for what he brings to the ice. Nobody can stop him.
Money will be tight for 2025-26 and 2026-27 seasons. But if the salary cap projections are somewhat accurate, the oilers should be okay after that. The good thing about inflation is that Nurse's contract becomes slightly less bad each year haha
WTF??? This man would be mediocre without McDavid by his side. There is no way he should be making THAT kind of money. Don’t get me wrong, the man deserves bank, just not that much. Let’s put it this way. Even if there is old vs new contract overlap, this man should NEVER have a single year where he is making more money than McDavid… regardless of anticipated salary cap changes. 🤷🏻♂️

Or how bout a meme about how a pitiful franchises only cup win since the 40s is because Glen Sather and a bunch of Oilers put on Ranger jerseys and won a cup for them.. Those sound like pretty funny memes😂
Oilers might be cooked after this. The team was already top-heavy, so i guess they just have to win off okay defense, okay depth, okay goaltending, and the strongest top six in the league.
