Is It Possible the New York Islanders Trade Brock Nelson This Season? One Media Outlet Says Yes

Could the New York Islanders trade center Brock Nelson this season? Bleacher Report thinks so, in fact, they named him their number one player to be traded in a recent article. We discuss under what circumstances a trade is possible and why it’s not that likely to occur with Lou Lamoriello.

Plus, how can the Isles fix their penalty kill even though they have mostly the same players returning this year?

And, we discuss some players who need to shine in training camp for the Isles to take a step forward.

All this and more on today’s Locked On Islanders Podcast with Gil Martin.

  1. Yes, I think they should trade Nelson
We could get a pretty good haul of youth at the trade deadline ( if we are out of the playoff picture)
Would be sad to see him go, but I feel it is in the best interest of the team

  2. Isles MUST trade Nelson, Palms, & others by trade deadline. No more letting assets walk for free. Return for these guys will be significant. Team cannot resign 33 year old players. Nelson has been a really good homegrown Isla Der but all things come to an end.

  3. I see the Islanders as a bubble team again this season even with Nelson, so yes, I think at some point if Lou can get back the right assets, Nelson should be traded.

  4. possible but not probable. Unless isles fall off a cliff louzer will hold onto 29 like finer china and give 29 a three year extention. Or louzer will kid himself 29 will re-sign before ufa and watch him walk away for nothing. Either way isles are fkd and fet nothing for their top trade chip by tdl or after season. Louzer better hope 29's production doesn't fall off a cliff as well lessing trade value we know louzer wont explore. And put 18 on full time pk duty. There must be something 18 can do besides skate real fast.

  5. Dumbest thing I ever heard. The guys who give their all to this mess of an organization they trade????? No sense at all. More bad decisions by the NHL leaders of stupid.

  6. I would hate for Nelson to be dealt, but it seems like its a necessary evil to do so. Buffalo and Minnesota have a ton of young talent that could use a productive top 6 vet

  7. Good 🌄, Gil, how are you? Unless The Islanders are out of playoff contention, they shouldn't trade Brock Nelson. The PK needs to get it together, and that goes for The PP, too. HAPPY 🎂 NIKOLAI ODJICK. May he R. I. P. Before I go, Do you remember when The CCCP and The Red Army came to The United States to play some exhibition games back in 76? They made just about every team they played look like they still belonged in Juniors, even The Canadiens who would go on to win The Stanley Cup. The Islanders played The Red Army, and even though they lost 2-1, Trots scored the only
Isles only goal, and he looked like a 6 year old who got his first pair of ⛸️ for 🎄. I bring this up because as much as I can't stand The Flyers, they beat them soundly, and with some blackmail from Keith Allen. It felt good to a Flyer fan, even though it was for one night. Hear from you later, Gil, and LET'S GO ISLANDERS.

  8. I’m totally against trading Brock. The simple reason is this guy is in tremendous shape, he carries zero extra weight and has no injury history. I would sign Brock to a low as possible AAV for six years. 6 x 6 stay on the Island. This is a unicorn type player, this isn’t a normal dude. He works at his craft like a Tom Brady. I also expect the team to be very good this year.

  9. Good morning team! Wow Gil, way to throw something like this at us. I admittedly have conflicting thoughts about this. As a huge fan of Nelson, I say, there is no way they should trade him now. We need the potential excellently timed goals he has to push us into the playoffs. The business me says, sadly no player is an Islander forever so, let's see what we can get for him. The trade has to be made a year early vs. a year late. You certainly got some of my emotions fired up during this episode. I enjoyed it immensely. Thank you for what you do. Everyone, have a great day and a wonderful weekend. See you all again on the next one. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!! P.S. Grandson says, keep Brock Nelson and LGI!!

  10. If Nelson is traded, let's hope it is a package deal, freeing up 11-13 million in cap space. In return we need a player(s) that are almost done in development. Would rather have Roy have them on the team to finish polishing them, then have the go stale in Bridgeport, kudos to all our draft picks who decide to play college hockey then stagnate in Bridgeport. No player development happens there.
Gil thank you for getting us thru the summer, your "Locked On Islanders" is the best around, all the others seem very "amateurish ". (Some are painful to listen to)

  11. Brock value can’t be replaced, sure he’s getting up there in years but I think he has a few more solid years. Only if we go for full rebuild should we trade him.

  12. What are you trading Brock for? A late 1st, cap dump and mediocre prospect? Yeah, that’s not going to work one bit. Unless the return properly benefits the Islanders (aka not helping a cap strapped team scapegoat problems), it’s not worth it.

  13. Definitely need to keep moving toward getting younger, Nelson is a rare breed, one of the few guys who has actually gotten better as he has aged. If we are out of it come the deadline they should look to move Nelson, Palms, and possibly Varly. Their return would be significant.

  14. I think if a decent deal is feasible during preseason to trade Nelson Lou should take it. When I say decent I mean an excellent prospect plus maybe a first/2nd round pick. The benefit would be to reduce the cap hit, however the islanders would need a 25+ goal scorer, or someone who is excellent on special teams.
