The Washington Capitals welcomed back their captain, Alex Ovechkin, who returned from Russia and joined his teammates for informal skates at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. Ovechkin also met new teammates Pierre-Luc Dubois, Andrew Mangiapane, Brandon Duhaime, and Logan Thompson. During the offseason, he vacationed in Turkey and Russia, engaged in training, charity events, and other sports activities like volleyball and padel. As he enters his 20th NHL season, the almost 39-year-old Ovechkin has his sights set on breaking Wayne Gretzky’s all-time NHL goals record, with 853 goals to his name, just 42 shy of the record.
