Detroit Lions OT win vs Los Angeles Rams, Tom Brady’s rough TV debut, NFL Week 1 reactions | 3 & Out

John Middlekauff breaks down the Detroit Lions’ thrilling 26-20 overtime victory against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football. John discusses Rams head coach Sean McVay’s heavy reliance on quarterback Matthew Stafford in the passing game, while Lions head coach Dan Campbell leaned into a dominant ground attack with David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs. In other NFL Week 1 news, John reacts to Tom Brady’s disappointing debut as a TV analyst and questions whether he’ll improve over time. He also dives into the Pittsburgh Steelers’ dominant defensive performance against the Atlanta Falcons, where Kirk Cousins struggled in his debut after signing a big contract. Is the Falcons’ roster overrated under new head coach Raheem Morris?
In the Overrated/Underrated segment, John highlights the New Orleans Saints’ blowout win over the Carolina Panthers, praising Derek Carr’s strong performance under new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. He calls Notre Dame the most overrated football program after their shocking home loss to Northern Illinois and defends Josh Allen against those calling him “overrated.” John also critiques Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson’s decision-making in their loss to the Dolphins, particularly his choice to avoid going for it on key 4th downs. Finally, he praises Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty for his monster performance against Oregon, drawing comparisons to NFL legend Darren Sproles.

  1. Baseball may pray for Yankees and Dodgers but as a former baseball fan, that is the exact reason I don't follow baseball anymore. MLB does everything within their power with their financial structure and rules to ensure that the teams with the most money have a huge competitive advantage over the others, no real parity. The Dodgers and Yankees will always be relevant because of the money they spend not because their smarter than other teams.
It's why baseball is soooo boring, same teams one or two surprises for a year or two, rinse, repeat.

  2. Brady is all business, in my opinion and just a serious dude. Remember The Match Tiger Payton, Phil and Brady. He had the same uncomfortable look/feeling in that situation as well. Were Payton is just the opposite, and it comes normal for him to be an entertainer . It will be hard for Tom, but I think he will figure it out.

  3. You would think John Diddlekauff would like basketball (his head is indistinguishable from one) but he never misses a chance to shit on the sport

  4. Before I ever heard Brady broadcast, I said that listening to him talk was like watching paint dry. Remember when they put Joe Montana in the booth? Great player does not equal great broadcaster.

  5. John, what you were saying about unknown players reminds me of Mike Shanahan telling Brock to be ready when his chance came.

  6. NFL is becoming more unwatchable every year. Too many flags. Too many bad offenses.

  7. John has Josh Allen made the SB yet that’s what I thought. It’s not about regular season games for Allen it’s about Rings if he is as great as you say he is

  8. Brady was thinking to hard. He's new. If anyone remembers Bradys beginning in the NFL he wasnt the GOAT yet. Give him time. He has the work ethic and the drive to prove himself. He will prove himself.
Edit: fucking thank you John I'm so damn tired of the Deshaun Watson defenders. Hes terrible he has been since getting to Cleveland and I'm done hearing and reading the excuses for him.

  9. The Rams had nearly 400 yards of offense with three 3rd string o-lineman and mostly no Puka Nakua. The Rams defense held St. Brown to 13 receiving yards and really limited the Lions entire offense. The Rams lost the game, but I think they really exposed the Lions.

  10. Maybe part of the reason Tyreek was voted #1 is all the press the Tyreek incident is getting and how none of you cover or mention the Rice incident that was infinitely worse…..🤡

  11. Brady is a CEO of his own brand now, he has so much to lose that he will never say anything that will hurt his reputation or bankroll . Give him a year before judging him he might be able to turn it around .

  12. The Lions success story is exact reason why the NFL is the number one sport in this country. You can come out of nowhere unlike any other sport and get good fast and that fact alone gives fans hope

  13. Brady was ok I only watched 2nd half so idk but he was fine. It’s his first game he’ll get rhythm

  14. I think people also have a problem with him getting that huge contract for broadcasting before ever calling a game. There’s a feeling he didn’t earn it and he only got it on his name. I don’t think ppl like that, I think they like to feel like the best guys are in those seats. With Romo, he came out of nowhere and ppl liked him and then he got paid, then the backlash started coming. I think ppl are kind of on Greg Olsen’s side of this too bc Greg was and is really good

  15. Enjoy your videos. This game (Lions vs Rams) is, in my opinion, an another example of terrible OT rules. Hard to believe the NFL can't do better. Thanks.
