This article popped up on my feed and I thought some of my fellow isles fans would get a good chuckle out of it. I’m not sure how reputable the source is but they seem pretty knowledgeable.
Just thought it would be awfully karmic for pajama boy to get the boot from his “dream team” because of taxes he failed to pay when he left the Islanders and received a signing bonus from Toronto.
Now, I’m not fully jumping on the Tavares hate train. I was just as upset as the next guy when he left the team under those circumstances. However, that’s business at the end of the day. BUT.. I definitely had a little smirk on my face knowing that at the very least he’s dealing with a massive legal headache because of the choices he made 😏

He wouldn’t get the boot because of his taxes, that’s a nonsense conclusion. If he loses he just pays 8 million back. If he quit the leafs he would have pay them back over 15 million.
I just read an article that detailed everything in 2018. Man would it suck for toronto to have wasted his last good years and then he gets boned by the canadian government. whoops!
It’s not that he left, that’s understandable. It’s the way he left that makes it personal.
Basically he and his accountant believe the signing bonus are taxed at a different rate than the CRA believes. That’s all
