I’ll toss Annunen out there. I feel like he has a lower floor than Ritchie but I also feel like he’s got a higher ceiling as well. He’s got difference making potential.

Everyone saying Annunen and I think I agree but should we discuss Kovalenko?

It’s the guy that has the potential to be in the conversation of “best ever” at his position, just needs more time.
Cale Makar.

Ilya Nabokov. If he replicates this season in the KHL, what he did last season, Annunen gets traded or is a career backup in Denver.

It is Makar. Once in a lifetime player that likely hasn’t even hit his ceiling.

Cale. He is was mirroring Orr at one point. Justus might be a great goalie, but Cale legit has potential to be considered a top 5 defenseman ever. Its kale no question.

Makar.
I say that because he has sacrificed offense to be better defensively. It was very noticeable last year where he started more in the Dzone and played real short handed minutes (not just the last 10-20sec of other teams PP after other teams PP1 is off).
He knew he was amazing offensively but it bothered him that he was considered 1 dimensional or just average defensively. I admire his commitment and he his defensive game has improved tremendously. It helps he has his man strength now and it’s clear he is comfortable in any situation now.
In short he is a solid defender now.
Now it’s time to take it up a notch offensively. I believe he has it in him to be a 120 point+ dman. If he wants it and stays healthy, I believe the potential is there to accomplish that feat.

Give me Makar. His realistic potential is one of the greatest of all time at his position.

Right now? It’s gotta be Annunen.
