I really don’t know how to feel about this lol

  2. Why not? We’re barely paying him, he has talent if he can stay healthy. Will be extra competition for camp. Seems like a totally reasonable risk to take.

    Nicky Bobby in shambles.
This news definitely had to wait until he signed.

Supposed old man washed up Pacioretty is still two years younger than Reaves.

Being said, at league minimum, this would be fine. Highly doubt his 4.2 S% and awful PDO will be repeated.

I’m guessing the PTO is so they can give him some weird Brandon Pridham cap hit before the season that does something with the cap depending on how the opening night roster looks after camp.

Kinda like how Cowan stuck around until a day before the season started last year and Noah Gregor signed last minute for cap reasons.

Washington was brutal last year. Patches hasn’t been able to stay healthy either. It’s low risk, medium reward. He’s a guy who could be nice depth as 4th line guy who will be physical and has a scoring touch.

I think more than anything this is a sign that the leafs don’t want to rush cowen into the nhl. Now he has to beat one or two guys out of the lineup to make the team or go back to juniors.

his contract value will likely be higher than the leafs can currently afford in Cap Space. it makes sense. My guess is that the leafs will see what pops up during camp and feel comfortable that a move or two will likely happen towards the regular season that will free up the requisite amount of space. if not, pacman can sign somewhere else.

    Should I be a 10/10 excited or only a 9.9/10?

PTO and I’d imagine vet min deal, it can’t hurt right? As long as he doesn’t turn over the puck to his old team in OT which costs us the series we’ll be fine.

Kessel is only 11 months older than Pac, maybe they can PTO him too lol.

The big concern of course being that he hasn’t played a ton recently due to significant injuries.

Last year he only got into 47 games but had 4 goals and 19 assists in those games which is better production than most of our depth forwards can manage in a full season so from that perspective I see the appeal.

My only concern is if this guy can still skate post injury. We are already a slow team overall and Patches doesn’t seem to help in that department. However, if he can regain his form from 2+ years ago he is a solid candidate for 20+ goals.

net positive i feel at the end of the day.

I was against bringing him in originally but now that Robertson is signed, I feel much calmer about it. He’s not a solution for a role higher in the lineup, but I don’t hate taking a chance now that the LW depth looks a bit better and he’s on a PTO.

I do wonder if he could be useful in bolstering PP2, or especially how he can fit into the PP mix if they go with a more balanced two unit approach.
