Did the Senators get enough in return for Mark Stone?

OverDrive hosts Bryan Hayes, Jeff O’Neill and Jamie McLennan are joined by TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie to get his take on the Sens trading Mark Stone to Vegas and what the details of the trade were that meant Ottawa didn’t get a first-round pick back.

  1. Asking was way too high, a lot of teams backed out, like Calgary, winnipeg, Nashville, Boston.

So they ended up having to settle for a bad deal, otherwise lose stone via free agency because I doubt that he would want to resign with the sens anyway. Or sign a contract for a ridiculous amount

  2. They got enough in return for Stone if he was a rental, but not as a player signed to an 8 year contract.

  3. Everybody is sleeping on Brannstrom. The kid is seriously on caliber with Chabot. A few more years of development and he’ll slide nicely in the top pair.

  4. Can TSN start putting the talk show name in the title, I'm tired of tryna watch a good discussion and getting the O Dog

  5. Great trade for Ottawa. If Stone stays then it's wasted talent. Brannstrom will be a great defender for Ottawa

  6. What the Sens got was a savings of $9mm per season in salary which was the objective all along. Why spend the money when you are in last place with Duchene, Stone and Dzingel. What Melnyk and Dorion have not factored in is the lost revenue due to fans not attending games to watch a glorified AHL roster.

  7. I’ll always be a Stone fan, but to get Brannstrom who was an UNTOUCHABLE for Vegas is a steal for Ottawa imo. Everyone saying they should’ve gotten a 1st + Brannstrom is dreaming. Brannstrom is like a Dahlin, or a Karlsson he’s a 15th overall pick that should’ve easily been a top 3 pick in the draft.

  8. Ottawa avoided a bad inflated contact & got back a second, grade A prospect with a ton of potential. The guy wasn't gonna sign there anyway, its a great deal for Ottawa & Vegas. Only thing is Vegas signed him for a little too much imo and they are gonna be in cap hell pretty quickly

  9. Why didn't Vegas need to give up a pick? I don't know, maybe be cause Brannstrom is a 15th overall pick in the first round. Much higher than any first Vegas was going to give them. Took me 15 seconds of research to find this out. If this was a trade to the leafs, they would be singing Dubas' praises
