I believe Torts get an invalid rap, regarding how he does in working with, and developing young players.
You have to remember when Torts became the Rangers coach: he had several very young players, just starting their careers ( Dubinsky, Callahan, Girardi, Staal, McDonough….etc).
All of which became excellent, impactful NHL players.
All of which ( including Dubi and Brian Boyle) credit Torts for helping them become better players, become professionals and grow into men.
Sure, Torts always wants trusted, reliable veterans surrounding, guiding and protecting his young guns.
But that's pretty much what all coaches and organizations do.
Torts, a great coach. Tough. Smart. Sometimes makes mistakes. But he's a good man, as well.
