Kapanen was extremely fast, but wasn’t in his prime here. Tippett would be a good answer too.

  2. FoxyRoxas

Probably Owen Tippett. Dude has rocket boosters and the Flyers haven’t really had someone with his speed in a while. Voracek was the closest in recent memory.

  3. Phillydilly52

I remember Gagne competing in the speed skating event in the all star stuff.

  4. Chemical_Pound_593

Shawn Antoski… if you know, you know!

  5. DCUStriker9

    Toughest category?

Tom Gorence was fast in his time
    Ilka Sinisalo
    Owen Tippett
    Sami Kappenen

When I played NHLPA 93, I always used Brad Jones as my speed guy. Was he fast? I was 5-7 when he played so I have no clue.

  7. Lethal_Lunacy

I honestly think its Owen Tippet. Flyers haven’t had too many speedsters

  8. APungentFart

    Sami Kapanen.

Honorable mentions: Ryan Poehling, Geoff Sanderson, Darroll Powe.

  9. roscannon

Brad Jones. Wore #47 and played here one season. Announcers that season would always bring up how fast he was and although he showed it from time to time, he really couldn’t do anything else. He made it into NHL 93 and had 100 speed IIRC.

    Edit: spelling…

  10. No_Opportunity2789

Sami kapanen won fastest skater in NHL award atleast twice

I am going to get slammed for this and rightfully so but it is a joke.

    Pelle

    In all seriousness.

Amonte, Gagne, Tippet, Kapanen would be a tight race.

  12. ikswosil

while tippet is certainly the current answer, as a flyers fan when i think HOLY SHIT HE WAS FAST … its either kapanen or gagne, but more sami

  13. Jerrrroome

Sami Kapanen is one of just six players to ever win two all star fastest skater competitions, gotta be him

  14. shinyRedButton

Tippett is the fastest blue line to blue line Flyer I can remember and I’ve been watching since the early 90’s

  15. I see everyone mentioning Wellwood and he was fast. Paul Coffey is a decent answer too. I think Mark Recchi and Sami Kapanen competed in fastest skater contests at the ASG. I think Kapanen even won that event a couple of times.

But in all my years being a fan, I really don’t remember any Flyers player being as fast as Tippett.

  16. ThadTheImpalzord

Although Sami Kapanen wasn’t at his peak with the Flyers he’s still the fastest guy I remember seeing in orange and black. Tippett has pretty insane acceleration too but I still say Sami

  17. ASKIFIMAFUCKINGTRUCK

Matt Read. That dude was insanely fast in the 2011-2012 seasons.

  18. This is a tough one because is it fastest career skater who was on the team or fastest in a Flyers jersey?

I think Sami Kapanen was the fastest but he wasn’t a Flyer when he was at his peak speed-wise.

Tippett is the obvious answer because players today have better equipment, training, and technology at their disposal and the numbers naturally bear that out.

Personally though, I think if you put Simon Gagne in a pair of Tacks and current gear in his prime, he’s as fast or faster than Tippett, but that’s just supposition.

  19. luckytaurus

Isn’t the newest Ginger to our collection the fastest? Didn’t he top the league this year in speed bursts above 30mph or something? In a league that includes monsters like McDavid and Mackinnon?

  20. Prudent-Psychology66

    It’s probably Owen Tippett honestly

  21. BothMyChinsAreSpicy

Won’t win but another guy that had some speed was Scottie Upshall.

  22. Professor2018

It’s Tippett. I don’t think Gagne was ever considered the fastest in the league and many have thought that of Owen around the league.

  23. Aggressive_Use_5580

Andrew Macdonald… oh I’m a day early. Nothing to see here

  24. Tippett has the highest top speed ever for a flyer so probably Steve mason
