Given Xavier Parent’s recent performance in the prospect tournament, I think it’s time we consider him a legitimate prospect with bottom 6 NHL potential. When Parent signed 2 years ago, the expectation was that he’d be a career AHL player who maybe got a handful of NHL games in his entire career. Parent has now posted 2 good seasons in the Devils organization, first in the ECHL, and last year in the AHL. Parent lacks size as he’s listed out to be 5’8, but he makes up for it with his speed and work ethic on the ice. Parent reminds me a lot of Conor Sheary when he was on Pittsburgh. Sheary was a pest on those Cup teams and he chipped in nicely on the offensive side as he progressed. Even if he doesn’t chip in significantly on the offensive side, I think a speedy bottom 6 winger like Parent on a cheap deal can be very useful over the next few years

He’s a classic hockey prototype – the future coach, maybe? A guy with *all* the hockey smarts, all the “IQ” any pro could need, and a completely average (for his league – not compared to us haha) body. Some guys can overcome that but it’s a handful in a million, they need some luck because they need to a) stay healthy and b) keep getting chances, even though there’s no obvious “home run” potential.
I’ll believe it if he comes in swinging his thundercock around like Bratt did in 2017
the Athletic hockey podcast were recently talking about how he impressed at the rookie camp. they said if we dont offer him an ELC, someone else will.
