Everyone remembers Patrik Stefan’s missed empty netter, but what’s often forgotten is the context around it. If Stefan had scored the goal, the NHL could have looked very different. Could Patrick Kane have been a member of the Edmonton Oilers?

Nice of TSN to rip off youtube channel Hockey Psychology's "This 'Mistake' Changed NHL Hockey Forever" video from a year ago
was that Ray Ferraro ripping on Stefan for missing the empty net? its not like he was going through his legs or some fancy play to score.
And if Edmonton had gotten Kane then they wouldn't have been in a position to get Conner McDavid.
Yeah um no. This game is not why the Blackhawks got Patrick Kane. This Game was on January 4th. A ton of season came after this, this is not the reason the Blackhawks finished worse than the Oilers.
That's amazing!!! Great video!
Kane in Edmonton = no Draisaitl or McDavid in Edmonton. Butterfly effect is undefeated
Bad ice 🤣🤣🤣 Edmonton got some of best ice in the league
Wow
That would have meant no Connor McDavid in Edmonton.
Hockey Psychology did it first and way better lol
I’ll never forget where I was when I watched that Stefan mishap. 32 years of watching hockey it is top 2 of craziest goals I’ve ever seen. The other that in my eyes has tied it was Crosbys golden goal.
Edmonton didn't get Patrick Kane so they decided to get the next best one, Evander Kane.
Sort of ok….
But also
We all know the oilers
They’d have Drafted Kyle Turris as they’d just gone to the final with a bigger team and McTavish hated skill.
And we're still talkin about it!
This situation could apply to the Hawks now if you think about it. If Kane’s buzzer beater against Vegas counted as a goal, they would’ve had one extra point and would have had the 4th overall pick and possibly never draft Bedard
Karma bailed us out when a crappy Oiler team pulled out a win for Ryan Smyth’s last game (where he finally got to wear the C), pushing the Oilers ahead of the Panthers in the standings. The Panthers then won the lottery, selecting Ekblad, and the Oilers had to “settle” for Draisaitl
Edmonton still would’ve been horrible with Patty Kane and he would’ve wanted out
Between 2010 and 2015, oh, cover up a couple of sexual assaults.
Patrick Kane, the luckiest man on earth. 3 cups and he didn't have to play in Edmonton.
Marc andre bergeron though. not only was the guy a turnover factory, he blew out the knee of the oilers '06 cup, probably.
nice rip off vid
Gagner 8 pts > Kane 2 cups
Are you serious? Only 30 points per game? Of course he was a bust! Who gets only 30 points per game? Nobody gets 30 points per game. He was destined for the AHL from the start with only 15 goals and 15 assists averaged PER game over a season or two on a team like the Atlanta Trashers in the early years. Yes they were closer to resembling the Trashers than an actual NHL team. But only 30 points per game? That's ridiculous. My grandma averages 30 points easy, right now so Stephan had it coming. I can do better than 30 points per game too without trying and one hand behind my back with my eyes closed while sleeping no problem really easily. Who can't? Those are video game stats. Just video game stats.
It looks like the Edmonton turnover was also due to janky ice (odd puck movement made the player fan on the pass)
Great video, hoping more like it happen. Hockey history could be really different if certain events happened differently
Lmaoo I didnt know Stefan helped chicago get Kane. Thats wild
The Black Hawks were an amazing team – but IMO, a dynasty should include a back to back.
