It’s Thursday and ‘Fantasy Film Room’ is back with Nate Tice and Matt Harmon. The duo dives into the Saints offensive explosion in the first two weeks of the season and examine if what they’re doing is sustainable. The two also look at why scoring is way down across the league. Tice explains why it’s never been harder to play QB in the NFL against these modern defenses.
In the second half of the show, Tice shares why he’s nerding out about Kansas City RB Carson Steele and the opportunity he has ahead of him. Tice also nerds out about the ways the Chargers are using Ladd McConkey so far and why you should care about the Commanders run game. Well number 49 did get the tackle the 16 yard line but I’m not so sure about the way it was done around the swizzzle stick. The huddle occurred at the beginning of the birdie final which is a red flag.

Saints lose this week,
the "quarterbacks have never been better" thing was surprising – i guess the for sure have to process more, but idk the NFL seems to have a QB eval and development problem – would like to hear Nate delve into that more

The Carmichael offense was still top 10 in the League last year, we already had many of the pieces that we needed. We just needed a fresh mind to revamp the scheme. The game film will catch up to us eventually

Basically every single video is talking about the Saints. I don’t like it.
I think an underrated part of the scoring dip is officials being so aggressive on offensive penalties. The emphasis on tackle alignment penalties for illegal motion makes it harder to pass block. Being sticklers about ineligible man downfield has brought back a lot of positive offensive plays and makes it harder to run RPO. I feel like these penalties did not get called nearly as much in the 00s and 10s. You can go back and watch games and see plenty of wedge formation o lines.
