  1. I don't see it happening. The Devils just have too much cap free they'd just match and thank the other team for doing their work for them. Though with the issues in CBJ at the moment due to the tragedy, they are well below the floor.. something they could do is overpay… but the picks going back the other way kinda hurt that too so even them I cannot see that (well, maybe for Swayman… that would be a pip)

  2. Winnipeg Jets Trade Cole Perfetti to CBJ for a 1st round pick next year. Then the Jets Offer sheet Dawson Mercer at $5M for 5 years and NJD gets the Jets 1st and 3rd next year. The Jets get Mercer and CBJ's #1 pick next year for Perfetti and their 1st and 3rd round picks, which should be worse than the CBJ pick. WPG and CBJ win and NJD has cap space to do something else when they get close to the trade deadline and are hunting the Cup. Everyone wins. The Jets need a Mercer type for their 2nd or 3rd C spot, CBJ is looking for forwards, etc…

  3. Sign Mercer or let him accept an offer from another team. Mercer is a great team player. Look forward not backward.

  4. Hes not worth a top 10 pick which is what anyone who can sign him at this point will be at. Let alone that cap hit and im a huge Mercer fan

  5. Mercer would end up being a steal on a $6.8m over 8 years even if year one it might be an overpay. As a Devils fan I'd hate to see us lose Dawson but if we're getting a high odds lottery pick from CBJ, Habs or one of the bottom feeders I wouldn't complain about that either.

  6. I was hoping another team would sign Mercer. The guy sucks. Now we are stuck with him for another 3 years.
