Ideally I think the leafs should try for a shorter deal. I don’t think 36 year old mccabe would be a great asset. He’s great currently, hope he gets a payday. Just not sure I want it to be the leafs who pay him

He’s 31 in a couple weeks. There’s some potential for any deal to be a disaster. But hooo boy, has he been good here.

I’m so nervous about a McCabe extension with how Treliving signs contracts. It feels impossible that this would go well. McCabe turns 31 next month, so my guess is Treliving gives him 5 or 6 years and probably a slight raise on his current salary (4 million) to like 5-5.5 ish? 6×5.5? Are we all still excited? lol
I like McCabe, but I still don’t totally get this d group. Rielly is with Tanev. McCabe has been good on the right but they seem to want him on the left. But they don’t want to play him with Liljegren who should be getting a chance as their next best right D. At the same time, Benoit and OEL are also both left shot D.
Like what’s the plan if Hakanpaa is healthy? Is Liljegren the odd man out with McCabe and Hakanpaa as the right shot guys? Is Benoit the odd man out with Liljegren and Hakanpaa on the right side and McCabe on the left side? It’s one thing to have 6 or 7 good dmen, it’s another for them to actually fit together. They can’t re-sign McCabe until they figure out where the bottom 4 are fitting together.
