This deal makes no sense for the Rangers even considering that they have Lafreniere, Kakko and Kravtsov to replace Buchnevich and even considering that they will eventually run short of money to play those three , Fox, Shesterkin, zibanejad and Strome. They could have shopped him to any of 20 teams that would have given them more than a 4th line player and a 2nd round pick. Obviously, Drury or The Cigar or Dolan — ie, whoever is actually calling these "shots" — is an idiot. If no one was offering more than this, why not follow the TBL formula? Ignore the cap. Go 20% over and dare the NHL to do anything about it except hand you another SC.

As a Rangers fan I’m so happy to see that you can look at this trade for what it’s actually for. Most people are just looking at this on the cover and not digging in. Now we will have more ice time for the guys who are the future. Also now we can try to sign some of our other guys to long term deals which is ideal to do now before the cap starts going up in the next two years. I’d rather sign guys like Iggy and Foxy now for like 6-7 years at 6-7 million instead of bridge deals where in two years we got to sign them for 9 million cause the cap is going up and they have played so well. I liked Buch but not enough to sign him for 7 million at 5-6 years. He did great u set Quinn and obviously we don’t know how any of the guys will be in the new system, but I’d rather the younger cheaper guys get the ice time and the money since they are the future
Ranger fans will miss “Captain Happy” Pavel Buchnevich but sadly, the Rangers won’t be able to re-sign all of their young and maturing players. Plus Lafrieniere, Kakko, Kravtsov will be cracking their top six. What I like about the Rangers if the fact, they’re toughening up their 3rd and 4th line.

Good job on the Buchy deal evaluation! you are the first guy who was FAIR assessing the trade. As a Rangers fan, and big fan of Buchy, i also see the logic in moving him for a piece that is intended to toughen the team. Mika, Fox come up for contract next year, we can't pay Pavel 5.5 per, and also, there is a need to open roster spot in the top 6 for both Laffy and Kakko, and i see Vitaly as a great 3rd liner with Goodrow.
