  1. I wish my Steelers were in the market for a QB because I think it would be worth it to trade the current rd.1 pick and the next couple rd. 1's to trade up for this kid.

I don't know Fields very well, and I hope he has the same kind of attitude this kid has, because that is a football team leader!

Too much me me me…money money money…fame fame fame…true leading is caring more about the players around you than yourself. That's what wins championships. I hope Fields has that…otherwise, yeah…I'd sell the farm for this kid, no doubt!

  2. Falcons fan here. I would actually love for the Falcons to pick JJ McCarthy at #8 if he’s there. He wouldn’t have to start and can learn from Kirk Cousins for a couple years (like the Green Bay model). It’s a way of extending a Cousins level QB beyond 2 years by transferring that knowledge and how to prepare.

Everyone wants the Falcons to pick Dallas Turner but honestly I don’t know if he’s going to be a dominant edge player. If there was a Bosa or Hutchinson there then take him. But I think they have an opportunity to set up the QB position for a decade.

  3. JJ commanded the handoff and trailed some running plays in case there was a fumble. He would be the anti Brock Purdy. Purdy was Iowa State's offense for 4 years. Playing from behind a lot with an average supporting cast. The NFL does suck at evaluating QBs, that's for sure.

  4. JJ isn't the reason Michigan was winning. It was the rest of the team. Classic case of great team so the QB must be great too. Nope. Sometimes you get a Phil Simms. The best game manager in NFL history. Only 1 season where he reached 4000 yards passing. Only 4 seasons where he surpassed 20 TD passes. Yet he gets boosted for being on a team that happened to win a super bowls.

  5. Finally someone understands it. McCarthy was under tremendous pressure to win at UM. Maye was under no pressure to win at UNC. None. And still he lost all 4 of his final games in 2022 and 5 of his final 7 games in 2023. McCarthy won both games against OSU while Maye lost both games against instate rival NC State. Maye inherited an 8-5 team and went 17-9 with it. In the business world that's called no value added. Meanwhile McCarthy went 27-1 and his only loss was in the national semi final game.

  6. JJ is a lock in the top 10. Highly likely top 5. Would not be surprised if he is in the top 3. Regardless, IMO, he has a chance to be the top QB in this draft… if he has the right situation.

Crazy that media "experts" say definitively that Maye is a better passer, even though JJ completed 240 passes last year and Maye somehow was "astronomically higher" 269. JJ had a higher passer efficiency rating, higher completion rate, higher yards per attempt and lower int/game. JJ threw the third fasest ball ever at the combine, 61 MPH, even though mwdia experts have told us his arm was a question mark. He ran a 4.58 40. He won at least 6 games that were biggest than Maye even played in. JJ is also younger than Maye.

  7. I still cant believe the doubt around JJ… I'll admit the sample size is small in game time, but almost every single time they needed a play on a big down he delivered… And he went up against possibly the best defense ever every single day in practice… Not saying he is the best qb in the draft, but the negative hype is ridiculous lol

  8. “JJ didn’t have a lot of yards” he didn’t play in the 4th quarter at all in the first 8 games, got hurt against Penn State, could barely walk the next week and still gritted it out, beat OSU again with insane throws into tiny windows, the td to Roman Wilson he said he saw the safety’s tendency on film to turn his head so he knew he had the throw open shows he’s cerebral in film watching. He wasn’t healthy until the Bama game where Michigan continued to keep Bama in a game that should’ve been a blowout, two muffed punts, a big td run given up by the defense, JJ one handing an errant throw from Donovan Edwards, and casually launching it 35 yards downfield off his back foot with Dallas Turner in his lap, then proceeded to lead a game tying drive with a critical 4th and 2 pass from his own 27 yard line. His biggest flaw is throwing every pass like it needs to be 100mph when some passes could use some touch, which can easily be fixed with a competent qb coach, and holding the ball too long and not taking throwaways which can also be easily fixed. JJ will be the top qb in this draft mark my words.

  9. Rich, I love ya buddy. But… this whole argument about him, not complaining about having to hand the ball off a lot…

That is quite literally the easiest day at the office for any QB ever. Why in the world would he hate that. Cruising to a win by doing nothing? Who wouldn’t want that???!

  10. I thought Michigan looked awful against Alabama. I thought both teams looked awful. I did not think, "wow this qb's are fantastic." I found them pretty damn average.

  11. He'll be the most successful NFL QB of this class. Ideally, it'd be best (because of his age) if he went somewhere he could sit behind a solid vet for a couple of year; unless he goes to the vikings (looking likely). I mean, the 3rd string QB was putting up 400+ yd multi td games with them last year. He'd be great (with some normal growing pains) from day 1 if he goes there. Just sucks im also a lions fan, and they're in the same division.

  12. JJ McCarty might be great for a WR like Tyree Hill. Someone fast who can get collage separation in open spaces. He has a rocket arm for getting the ball there quick. Its Jake Maye foe someone like Justin Jefferson who relies on his body control and going up and attacking the ball. McCarthy throws it to hard and has no arc on the ball. There not a good match. Stuff like that only gets scouted by the teams.

  13. Rich is obsessed with defending McMuffin.
If someone is truly good, you don’t have to do that. He’s had at least three shows getting people to promote this kid.
C.J. Stroud got drafted, started and lit up the league. He didn’t need any apologists.

  14. The guy has shown he steps up when he is needed. He can be a gunslinger if that’s what’s needed. Be that said I think Michigan hurt him by not passing in the 2nd half of Penn St. game. He was not the same confident player he was before. Up til then I thought he was the leading Heisman candidate. But he came back to himself during the playoffs. I’ve noticed he is a really good QB with his back turned on play action, he totally reminds me of Brady then. Also he doesn’t get enough credit for his arm strength he can really sling it on deep throws over the middle.

  15. Rich? Alabama game? When ask to do something on a run oriented game plan; he delivered several times! And I’m a State fan! Glad he’s going to lead my Viking team!

  16. This guy is bitter! Jj was 26 and 2 in high school and 27 and 1 in college and a national champion and not to mention a national champion and state champion in high school!!Dont hate!!

  17. Koc &coaches will mature jj into a top 10 qb in 2 years ..this 21 year old kid has a high cieling…that said,Sam Darnold will EXCEL with all the talent around him..NFC North will be a power house division.

  18. I honestly don't have anything to hang this on. But I have this feeling he's going to be a REALLY GOOD NFL QB.

It's not because the Vikings drafted him and they're my team.

As a Viking fan you are tuned to think and feel the opposite.

But the only 2 QBs in the draft I have any confidence in are McCarthy and Penix.

I've seen more Penix stuff than McCarthy.

I don't know how he'll do. Nor does anyone else and all the kid can do is go out and do his best.

A lot more higher profile and more highly touted, sure thing draft picks have screwed the pooch and not come close to the hype in the NFL.

Vince Young, Sam Darnold, Ryan Leaf, Todd Marinovich, Tim Couch, Jeff George.

  19. JJ goes to mich where to get in you have to have a grade point of 3.2 which means your smart ,he's got 3 straight high school state championships plus he transfered to IMG academy and won the state championship in Florida ,has 4.4 speed in the 40 yard dash, leader of his team in playing ,also Michigan has been playing a pro offense under Harbaugh a Michigan man,ps first quarterback to win 1000 games with his teammates in NCAA history ,come on !! Remember he started the team going my saying "BET" meaning I dare ya to bet against us ,I'm coming back next year and win it all, that's some big kuhonias hanging there!!

  20. He performed look when you play at these monster programs like Michigan alabama ohio state Georgia notre dame you have alot more pressure than other teams just ask kyle mcord

  21. Honestly feel bad for Penix, Maye, and Daniel’s… Caleb Williams has a decent situation but skeptical… and Bo Nix is either gonna thrive or be the worst thing Sean Payton has done for the Broncos

  22. JJ 5th qb drafted. But he’s still the guy I would take. The people who know what to look for know it’s obvious.

  23. Hey jj what's up,i thought I saw you at the westborn market the other day. you were looking all around like you were worried that people were looking for you. I really hope that the Vikings know what they are doing. Sometimes girls aren't strong enough to play in the NFL, oh whoops I meant to say boys

  24. There's probably 30 QB's that would have won playing in his spot…. cause he wasn't the reason they won. Coach, defense, run….. he was there to hand it off. He's Trent Dilfer or Brad Johnson.

  25. Every winning quarterback in the NFL that you can name had great players around him and to hang the game manager monitor around JJ’s neck is to completely ignore his talent and abilities.

  26. It always amazes me how people criticize athletes for having other great players around them. As if they are automatically less talented because they don't carry the entire team. McCarthy is 63-3 as a starter in high school and college. No way is that just a lucky coincidence. He also plays elite level lacrosse and travel hockey. The Vikings made a great draft pick.
