  1. 17 years. Let the competition start. Isn’t it about time we had a player issue of who is going to play? May the best man win. May the winner add to what is projected as one of the NHL best young defence unless you listen to Pronman.
Surprise of the season? It isn’t Laine who should recapture his touch. It will be Dach who has had the fortune to shine

  2. One thing i don’t like about rookie camps is it doesn’t truly reflect everyone’s skill set. Playing with random guys that are trying desperately to make the team will change many factors. Some guys hold onto the puck longer or other guys will pass a lot more instead of shooting because they don’t want to look bad. A few guys were running around because the pressure was on. I think the AHL for a lot of guys will showcase them a lot better. Even some that stood out could very well be duds.

  3. I don't think the Habs will be doing many more changes for this season or even the next season. Laine is under contract for 2 seasons and they need to see if he comes back to his full potential, and they want Demidov in his second season, also they need to sort out our young D and see who stays and ho goes while giving them all ice time and experience before they really get into adding the big pieces. There will also be some "questionable" contracts coming off the books which will allow for those big pieces. The Habs are getting a reputation as a place to go among players and if Laine turns his game around that will make the Habs "THE" destination of choice for a lot of UFA's in 2-3 years from now. Great show guys! GO HABS GO!

  4. If you bring Ehlers you have to get rid of Gallagher or Armia or Anderson! No way he gets in if one of these 3 is there. I would even add Dvorak

  5. Montreal lost a lot of 1 goal games last season. Not too far fetched to say they could be in the wildcard conversation

  6. All those Dmen are just glad Bogdan Konyuskhov did not come over they did not need that extra competition.

  7. Hughes might be saying that just to raise the cost to get one of our upcoming FA. Savard at trade deadline should get a minimum 2nd rounder but if you say were keeping him unless you pay higher then you can force a desperate GM to send a 1st.

  8. Yeah right for Hugues.

He's trading Dvorak and Savard at the end of the season.

1- Too many defensemen are in the team and Dvorak can still be replaced at this point.
2- Players like Beck, Mesar, Kidney, Simoneau, Farrell, Kapanen, ETC can possibly become surprises at camp OR during the AHL season and be deemed ok enough to make Dvorak expendable.

I like Savard, but expiring contract vs almost a complete defensive squad of prospects…

  9. This is the most exciting rebuild in sports. The Sharks are on track, the Hawks have Bedard, but this Habs team is two years from a very special decade beginning.

  10. I would make a rotation with all of these guys between Laval and Montreal and see throughout the season which players fit the Habs the best. And at the same time you make all of them ready to replace a player in case of injury or lack of production. I would keep the competition going all through the season.

  11. They are building a team not a group of players. It starts with good management and coaching and player development. We have all those things now and excellent prospects.

  12. There is only one worry I have about the defence corp – what if relatively they look great but in absolute terms they are only mediocre? I listen to many other teams' podcast and everyone thinks they have a tremendous defence and wonderful goaltending. Fans follow their team and evaluate players in that context but just because a player is the best your team has, it doesn't make the player one of the best in the league. I am confident our defence will be great but the regular season will tell.
Jesse is right Ehlers on the third line would indicate the Habs have a stacked team.

  13. Y'all dreaming.
At the highest level of competition you can't improve 30% in one year.
The Habs will suffer at the bottom until they fix their problem.
    The coach has no clue.
The wrong players are slotted in the wrong positions and they have no system.
    None.
They are proving just valuable the coach really is.
    Bob Hartley is on deck.

  14. Probably concerning Savard but i would include Mario Armia in that as well. He seems to be buddies with Laine so maybe a connection on the 2nd line?

  15. Habs don’t need another smaller and prone to injury player in our line up.

    SCOUTING REPORT
Skill is not his issue; he is slick with the puck and can create plays or finish them. Anyone on his line is usually a threat to score, and he can play either wing. When he is on the ice, the puck is usually going the right way for his team, and he is quite dangerous on the power play. However, his lack of size continues to contribute to a career-long run of injury issues.

  17. Once the season begins, and Price is put on LTIR, Kent Hugues will have 10M available under the cap.
Lots of room to add contracts then.

  18. Can Mtl trade Anderson back to Columbus who need to reach the min cap space. Eat some salary and open up a spot in the line up.

  19. Rather see Roy get a good look as a two way playmaker with Dach Laine

Newhook would be good there too but I see Newhook as the speed on a line with Gally and DVO

That would be a solid 3rd line

    4 th line

Andy’s speed along Armia’s size and Evans 2way would be one of the best 4th lines in NHL

    FIRWARD GROUP IS DEEP

    Beck
    Kapanen
    Florian
    Tuch
    Pezzetta

All possible depth pieces … you can make a decent 4th line with the scratches alone

    Florian – Beck – Tuch 💪

  20. Everyone and their dog is saying trade Savard.

It would be the most idiotic thing to do

If Habs want to be in the mix, why would they trade their best defensive defenseman and the only vet with a Stanley cup ring, the dad on the team.

Never mind he is the perfect partner for Hutson until Reinbacher or Mailloux are established which is 1-2 years away…

Hutson when ready makes Matheson redundant

Matheson – Ghule = Ghule playing RD ( his offside ) and doing all the defending on that pair, which is likely why he takes so many hits and at risk of injury, Ghule deserves a responsible partner.

It doesn’t have to be this season, but if Hutson by trade deadline is running PP1 and is reliable defensively I’d pull the trigger

Matheson = buy low sell high

Top 4 D that can put up 50-60 points should net you high picks or in my opinion a middle 6 PWF that plays heavy, has speed and can chip in offensively… like a Holloway or Joshua ( basically what Josh Anderson should be )

Matheson is the D worth a good return to move out, I don’t see a future here for him with such a deep LD

    GHULE – best 2 way
    HUTSON – dynamic
    WIFI – Sheriff

    Depth

    STRUBBLE – Solid
    ENGSTROM ~ promising
    TRUDEAU ~ is underrated

Barron would be next if Reinbacher and Mailloux are ready to overtake him… which shouldn’t take long.

    By next season

I would pair Reinbacher with Ghule as a shut down pair that can support and even drive some offense with their solid 2 way

Hutson – Savard as a balanced 5v5 pair, Hutson doing his thing while Savard covers for him.

Wifi – Mailloux as a heavy devastating physical pair with offensive upside

I would only trade Savard if Habs are out of the mix at deadline, collect a nice return and would then bring him back the following year on a 1-2 year deal

  21. On the negative side, if Struble or Mailloux go back to the AHL they might be thinking about how they'd probably make the NHL on almost any other team in the NHL. If they can't find their spot they might ask for a trade.

  22. I love our prospects as much as anyone but William Trudeau gets forgotten by all. Trudeau had a strong season last year too and his 2 way game is very strong. If we didn't have so many good D Trudeau would get way more love. I believe he is an NHL'er and we will most likely lose him for nothing an that is not really that bad but i feel bad for him. He is completely forgotten.

  23. Like all the management says its about progress individual and as a team breakout years would be nice but progress is what we need go Habs go 🔴⚪🔵 from Ontario size 7
