Theoren Fleury. If only he could’ve kept his off-ice issues at bay, he’d have accumulated better totals, have his number retired, and maybe even be in Hall of Fame contention.

  2. OrganicRaspberry530

If Bourque wasn’t overrated, then he definitely could be here too. If he ever found a way to iron out the consistency of his game he would have been such a stud

  3. Andrei Medvedev. Someone shoulda hid the sugar ‘n carbs…

    Sven bartschi
More wasted by the organization, but sucks he never got a real shot.

  5. Tkachukwagon

Adam Fox. Stupid baby, only wanted to play in New York. I’ll boo him till he’s out of the league.

  6. Babyblueyeti

Going to add Sven Bartschi here. After having no quality prospects for years, he scored 3 goals in his first 3 NHL games, he seemed to be the fresh face of a new era of Flames hockey. Then riffs with Hartley, laziness and concussions led to a middling NHL career.

  7. grenzowip445

I’m going to say Adam fox. Guy is the second or third best defenceman in the NHL and we drafted him but he refused to play for us

  8. DescriptionHumble315

For a childhood classic, I’d say Martin St.Louis & Brent Krahn

  9. saskatchewansealskin

An honourable mention to the waste of a first round pick we’re sending to Montreal, courtesy of our Mr. Most Overrated Flame pageant winner. It literally has the potential to be anything.

Rico Fata – I’ll never forget this quote I read about him. “A scout once told me that “that kid could get to the wrong place on the ice and do the wrong thing faster than anyone else in history”.”

  11. Damm_shame

Sven. Not his fault with unlucky injuries but he had top line potential

  12. TheCalgaryJames

It’s gotta be Bennett. Playoff Sam Bennett was an elite hockey player but neither he nor the organization could figure it out in the regular season

  13. mountnbkr

I’m going to say Kent Nilson. He had so much natural talent that most of the time he didn’t have to try. He could have been so much better had he just put some effort into his game…

  14. harperofthefreenorth

Can we say St. Louis? Granted it was the organization that wasted his potential, but if he and Iginla had played on the same line together for most of their careers their resumes would be even more impressive.

  15. asdasdasdzxczxczxc

Saying Fleury is dumb. He did everything for this franchise. You don’t like him off the ice, fine, but that kid hit his potential and more for the Flames as a hockey player.

  16. dewgdewgdewg

Honorable mention to Daymond Langkow. Fluke injury during the peak of his career when he was one of our most reliable and productive forwards.

  17. weilycoyote

Jon Gilles for me. I remember when he won the natty with Providence. I was so stoked for him. Alas, he was just another failed goalie prospect.

  18. Fork-in-the-eye

Honestly, Fleury could’ve been the best of all time if he didn’t have all his off-ice nonesense

  19. Sweet-Razzmatazz-993

Most potential would have been Brett Hull.

  20. TheMikeSweeney306

This list is way too focused on the Flames of the last 10-15 seasons. Martin St. Louis is the most wasted potential, we had a future Hall of Famer that we gave up on and then he ends up winning the Hart and then beating us for the Cup! Sam Bennett is a really solid player that can be a second liner on a title team, but he’s not putting up Hall of Fame numbers and will never win a Hart.

  21. Sweet-Razzmatazz-993

    Best defender. : al macinnis
    Best goalie: Kipper
    Most wasted: Sam Bennett
    Fastest: Theo
    Slowest: Todd Simpson
    Best handles: Kent Nelson
    Worst goalie: Coco
    Worst shot: Reco Fatta
    Best shot: Brett Hull.

  22. depends on how you define wasted potential. Imma put up Martin St. Louis. Wasted on our end for him to go on to win the cup against us

  23. Wasted potential. Dillon Dube, he’s proven to be alot of things. He hasn’t played in the NHL enough to be considered a bust like Chris Chucko or Emile Poirier

  24. Gnarly-Banks

I’m going Dube for this one, as poor decisions lead to career being tossed out the window.

What his ceiling was is trully unknown and there is definitely names in this list with much greater skill than Dube that never went that far. I will say, I was always very skeptical about the forecasting on Dube as he never really showed that much on ice in comparison to hype.

Wastage factor is high for Dube.

  25. I agree with Martin St. Louis, but that wasn’t his choice to leave. For most wasted potential from a player, I’m gonna go with Daniel Tkaczuk the team really destroyed his confidence.

  26. Impressive_Manner143

    St. Louis-Savard-Iginla for the 2000s
    Or
    Daniel Tkaczuk

  27. Beneficial-Bee8296

Sam Bennett. He turned out to be a great player. Calgary just couldn’t figure out how to utilize his talent.
