Yeah both he and Tippett had one tonight. they usually give vets a letter for preseason if other regular captains aren’t on the ice. He won’t be wearing one in the regular season

Being an NHL captain has actual ingame on ice implications. Only captains are allowed to talk to refs. So you pretty much need to have atleast 1 alternate captain dressed in a gmae.
For example. Say there’s a big scrum and refs stop to try to sort out penalties. When you see 1 player from each team over by the box talking/getting an explanation, those 2 players are always C or A sweaters.
It’s not just a leadership symbol.
