A week from tomorrow, NBC Sports Chicago will cease to exist. This network has been around since 2004, formerly known as Comcast SportsNet Chicago, CSN Chicago, etc.
In its place will be the new Chicago Sports Network, which at this time still has very limited information and has left a lot of people (myself included) very confused. I’ve taken it upon myself to keep you guys updated on any new info, because I’m a nerd about stuff like this.
This new article I linked gives us some new info that we sort of already knew.
• the network will launch October 1st at 5p
• studio talent will be kept the same (key changes: Granato returns and Charlie moves to WGN Radio)
• CHSN is in talks to get more agreements, most notably with Comcast, the main provider they need to get here in Chicago, before launch
• you can watch free over the air on 62.2 and 62.3 with an antenna
• direct to consumer offerings are still undefined but are under consideration
That last point is the big one, to me that says that there’s no app right now. Seriously? That’s insane.
Just to note, every single hockey team that’s gone the streaming or OTA route over the last year or so has an app: VGK with Knighttime+, SEA with Prime, DAL/ANA with Victory, FLA announced it but none atm, WSH with MSN, UTAH with UTAHHC+
An app is huge for those who don’t want to pay for DirecTV, the only way to watch currently and is the most expensive streaming option. What have they been doing for the last few months that they still don’t have affiliates in other cities, at the very least an app so we can watch on other devices?
It’s so frustrating to be literally a week away from launch and still know almost nothing. It’s so disappointing and disrespect to us as fans.
