A Heroic Effort! | Max Sala’s Race Across America

Manchester City’s Head of Sports Medicine, Dr. Max Sala, has for the past eight days been tackling the world’s toughest bicycle race, the Race Across America, all to raise awareness and funds for City in the Community’s One City disability programme.

To date, Max has ridden a staggering 2,000 miles, crossed five states, and raised over £80,000 going to directly to the club’s foundation.

Over the past two days, the race has put an increasing strain on Max’s body and despite his determination, Race Officials and Max’s team have made the difficult decision to withdraw Max from the race.

Everyone at the Club and foundation are extremely proud of Max for this phenomenal achievement and the commitment he has given to this challenge over the past three years.

All money raised will help to create new opportunities for disabled people across Greater Manchester and continue to support City in the Community’s nine disability teams.

  5. It makes me so happy and proud to see the club I support has such wonderful people on staff! Your effort was valiant and not in vain. We all have our physical limitations, but we must keep pushing and fighting to achieve our dreams, even if sometimes we fail. That is what the children you are riding for do every day, and I guarantee you have made them proud. Bravo!

  9. To attempt what you have done and for a reason greater than yourself, I have nothing but huge respect and admiration. You're a great man and i wish you a speedy recovery. You may not have finished but you're a winner; as are all the people you have raised money for. X

  10. Wow Max you have been amazing and what an incredible effort. I am so relieved you have ended the challenge now though and you certainly haven't let anyone down – quite the opposite. If you had chosen to continue you would have been putting yourself at too much risk – we need people like you in our club to continue making a difference and if you don't look after yourself you can't impact on others in the way you do. Thank you for everything you have done. Sometimes it takes the bigger man to know when to stop. You have been amazing and should be so proud.

  11. So much respect even if he didn’t finish it! Should be incredibly proud because he never gave up! He represents what this entire club stands for! He’s a fighter just like the Man City team!

  12. I watched this with tears in my eyes! I’m so proud of his efforts and he hasn’t let anyone down! 👏👏👏🐝🐝🐝
