This one is very tough to watch. Doc does a great job of looking at this. Just so much that could have been damaged here. I can also imagine how much force might have been applied to the Achilles tendon, almost a chain reaction of terrible potential injuries.
Excellent explanation and visuals of the possible injuries that Daughty may have suffered.
As for the mechanics of the collision, it looks like his left skate blade got caught in one of the vertical seams on the yellow bumper plate that makes up the lower portion of the boards which forced his skate blade to take the path of least resistance, which was to follow the path of the vertical seam upwards, resulting in his toes pointing skyward while the heel of his foot was pushed into the ice by the momentum of both players. Youch!
Hopefully, nothing's broken.
I suffered a really bad sprain on my left ankle a couple of years ago. As a result, I was ordered off my feet for a period of six to eight weeks. It ended up being the latter before I could put any weight on my foot.
Hopefully, he only has a sprain, and I further hope that his sprain isn't as bad as mine was.
