I liked a lot of what I saw from Gill in his short time in camp. It’ll be fun to watch him develop.

Does this mean he’ll play in the ahl or can he still go back to the q?

I’m down. Kid played great and earned a shot

kid did all the right things and didnt make a ton of mistakes, lots to like, moves his feet well and handles the puck with confidence, important note: he doesnt over handle it. i wasnt really watching his break out passes but lots of that comes down to familiarity with teammates and systems anyways t he’s going to give Bonk some competition one right side one day soon.
Sanheim, York, Drysdale Zamula Seeler are already roster players
Andrae, Bonk, Gill, McDonald, Sotheran and more are all going to be knocking on the door within the next few seasons and they will have to fuckin work for a spot. Culture, baby.

I like Gill a lot so far. McDonald too. We might not end up with that elite franchise 1D but I think we’re going to end up looking a lot like CAR where our depth at the position more then makes up for not having that Makar type on the top pair. I’m content with that and very excited to see a future shut down pair of Gill/McDonald.

There’s a ton of upside to Gill. He looked good in practice and looked good in the rookie game, but in the game against Washington, he was exposed a bit. The size is there, the ability is there, the skating is there, the intelligence is there, but the weight isn’t and that’s holding him back. His center of gravity is high and it makes him easy to knock off the puck, which is what happened in the Washington game.
The great thing is that he’s going back to junior hockey and he’s going to grow and play a lot. You want a good comparison? Look at Tristan Luneau from Anaheim and that’s Spencer Gill.
