Just a thought – is Tavares a player who will put the Leafs before him and spend the regular season on LTIR? It would cure all the Leafs' cap issues. He gave up the C so maybe???
If Lorentz and Patches are going to make the squad, 2 people that are currently under contract have to be traded.

Kampf & Jarnkrok can both go that gives you 4.5 mil to sign Patches & Lorentz and still have cap room.
Leafs need more like Lorenz and a lot less floaters .. kempf . Timmins. Lilligren etc etc

If you didn't notice that board battle by Lorentz, against the Habs, you were asleep. It made me go, " Woah, who was that?" It was a heavy play. He would make this a tougher team to play against. I need to see more but he didn't stand out for any bad plays.
Lorentz won a puck battle in a preseason game versus an all prospect line-up and its some kind of leaf existential crisis? Sign him, Don't sign him, 19 points of Steve Lorentz isn't going to make a bit of difference.

If Lorentz is signed, it will be Reaves being waived that makes room for him.
