This makes zero sense we have a bunch of wingers already why not get his value up and trade him for draft picks

If there’s no market for him then there’s no reason to not extend him on a cheapish deal. Doesn’t mean we can’t trade him further down the line. As long as it’s not a long term deal I don’t mind.

As with every signing, this would depend on the term and AAV. Having a good player on a good contract is never a bad thing.

In a large part because he hasn’t done this, I am not worried about Conroy signing a bad deal to keep Kuzmenko on the team. He will either sign a fair deal or be traded.

Wouldn’t be the end of the world. A big return would be great, but Kuzmenko truly is a joy to watch and seems like a huge boost to the vibe of the room.

For all we know though, this might be an intentional leak to the media. Having the option to keep him only provides greater leverage in trade talks.

I just want people who wanna be here man

If he fits the bill I am more than happy. Doesn’t hurt that he is a pretty dam good player too

Now hear me out… if the vibes are that good, ship him off as a rental then sign him again on July 1

Honestly I wouldn’t mind it. I’ve been on the fence because I like Kuzy, but I also like good draft picks. I honestly think I’d be happy with a decent return or with an extension.

I’m fine with extending Kuzmenko. Especially if the Flames are losing Kadri and Andersson.

  9. CorrosionRF

Does not fit the competitive timeline at all and this practically guarantees Coronato is stuck in the AHL/4th line. I like Kuzmenko, I really do but I can’t see how this is a good thing long term.

    Jokes aside:

    1. This is frank, frankly his “vibe check” meter is so far out to lunch it’s not even funny… especially when he’s not breaking hard news and is speculating it means shit all in calgary 😂

    2. I can’t see them extending him long term, *if* it ends up happening it’s likely 1-3ish years tops and I would imagine is still a way to maximize value on him. If conroy isn’t getting anywhere near the interest or offers he wants on kuzy then a short extension gives more runway for him to be fed minutes and perform, as well as ups his value with a bit of term… of course all of this assumes he continues playing fairly well.

I also wonder with the rumblings we’ve heard of “vets” considering not sticking around for a rebuild/retool that this could be his way of replacing whichever vet gets traded, for example say coleman requests a trade so conroy extends kuzy for 2 more years to keep some vets on the roster to guide the kids?

Ultimately this is a nothingburger and is irrelevant until we get into the season and see what happens 🤷‍♂️

If his next season is anything like his last in Vancouver was, then the trade may not be nearly as impressive as you might think. We did Vancouver a favor by taking him and he had to be convinced to accept the trade. There’s no guarantee that teams take a risk on him.

I think he is fantastic when deployed advantageously, but it’s too soon to say that we should throw him away if the trade isn’t right. We still need to meet the ceiling and Mantha is also good trade bait.

  12. The-Reddit-Giraffe

I’m fully on team rebuild but I think if we can get him for a good dollar value you sign him for sure. He was a 40 goal scorer his first year in Vancouver and had an enormous down year which still included 22 goals. Is he a black hole on defence? Yes but most ultra skilled wingers are in this league and that includes contenders. He’s our second most skilled forward currently, why wouldn’t you want to keep that?

  13. CanadianSpector

My favorite thing about Seravalli is when he says something a fan base likes, it’s always true but when he doesn’t, he’s a hack with no sources.

  14. elonmusketeer604

He’s 28, I think the sweet spot would be a 2 or 3 year term and then trade him in the last year of his deal at the deadline.

  15. Zealousideal_Ratio93

I love Kuzy, and if Kuzy loves it here, let’s sign him

  16. Frank needs to remove his nose from the cinnamon ring.

  17. haken_loob

This team has Huby, Zary, Sharongovich, and Coleman locked into wing in the top 9. Add Kuzy and that leaves us with 1 place for Coronato, Honzek, and any other winger who pops the next two years (Stromgren, Suniev, etc).

We need to get rid of wingers, not add them.
