I read up on this. He hasn’t skated all camp due to injury, so he needs rehab time on the farm. Not as dramatic as the title of the article. I was one of the first to laugh, but further research proved me wrong.

Askarov is injured and needs a bit of time to rehab. The issue isn’t that he demanded to play in the NHL this season, the issue was if there was a place for him long term and if Trotz was going to try and drive down his RFA price.
San Jose said when they traded him that he was open to playing in the AHL. They also signed him to a 2 year, $2m RFA deal already. Askarov doesn’t mind waiting, he just wants to know a team is committed to him and isn’t going to continue to shop him around.
Askarov wanted a chance to compete for a spot and a team that wants him. He wasn’t getting that with the Preds.

He’s going to be fun to watch in this league, and at the end of the day that’s what i’d like to see. Tired of all the cookie cutter players with the same canned answers during interviews, playing buttoned up old man emotionless hockey.
